Have just returned from weekend break at this Hotel. My room was one of the best I have had, clean fresh, and plenty of tea etc. The staff were fantastic and entertainment very good, food was good and plenty of it. BUT why do they give free drinks from 6 - 10pm. I dont know how they can afford it? and surely people dont go for the free drinks do they? the hotel was very good without the free drink, and before anyone thinks I dont drink- I do. Unfortunatly for us there was another coach load there who abused the free drink and spoilt our weekend somewhat.I had no sleep at all thanks to the other coach load of drunks. I have given five stars in spite of this as I do think the hotel and staff were that good.

Just returned from our annual weekend 3 day break, (coach party of 35 persons).
This is the15th. year we have ran this weekend away, and I have to say it is one of the best we have been on.
The Hotel was excellent. the rooms were clean, most with sea views. The staff were very friendly, both in the bar and in the restaurant, all worked hard to ensure we had a good time.
The entertainment on Friday and Saturday night was good, especially Saturday, the male and female duo were brilliant.
We could not fault the food, plenty of choices for the evening meals, but the buffet breakfasts were superb. All in in all an excellent value for money weekend break, enjoyed by all 35 guests.
Thank you to both management and staff for making it such a lovely weekend.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE........well worth a visit !!!

We booked into the New Ocean Hotel having seen an advertisement in our local Welsh paper. Our room was clean and comfortable but I certainly agree with previous reviews about the lack of electric sockets. I like my own hairdryer but was unable to use it as the only plug was nowhere near a mirror. Foodwise, the breakfast is excellent! I do wish the quality (and quantity) could be carried over for dinner. Vegetables nicely cooked but offered only "roast", "mashed", "boiled" potatoes or chips ... please do ask for more than one selection and the kitchen is happy to oblige. Every fish dish was faultless while for some reason meat seems to be in short supply. The majority of clientele arrive by coach and should you (like us) drive to the hotel, please read the previous review on parking. The hotel does have a few parking spaces but it is misleading to say there are 20 (realistically only 8). Without exception, the reception, bar and dining room staff are friendly, helpful and very efficient ... the whole atmosphere of this hotel is relaxed and sociable. Not too sure about room service (cleaners) ... least said soonest mended! To sum up, as we were an individual booking and not part of a coach tour, we had paid a deposit but were rather taken aback at being asked to pay the balance on arrival (would normally be on departure) and also at the instruction to report for dinner at 7 pm (which we may well have done by choice but are accustomed to having a "window" for meals). We would consider this hotel to be geared to coach holiday customers and not private bookings. The staff are so willing and helpful but this hotel system is not suited to individual reservations.

Thank you for your review. Thank you for your kind comments in regard to the staff. I am sorry that you had problems parking your car (we do have 20 spaces between our 2 hotels) as you are aware we are on the sea front and parking is limited. Best wishes

We are writing with regards to our stay at the New Ocean Hotel from the 7 – 9 September 2013. The room we were given was of an acceptable standard which we were happy with but the one thing we did find a little annoying was that there was only one electric socket. The breakfast provided was very nice with very polite and efficient staff.
We would like to highlight an issue regarding the parking - one of the reasons we chose the New Ocean Hotel was the benefit of “safe parking” for our car as it advertises free parking. We were informed when we rang to book that there are 20 free parking spaces on a first come first served basis between the New Ocean Hotel and its sister hotel The Birchfield Hotel which is a few yards away, however, this is definitely not the case upon arrival we found there are actually 4 spaces in front of the New Ocean Hotel and 8 spaces in front of The Birchfield Hotel - the others are just ‘on road parking’ nearby which is definitely unacceptable when we were informed there were 20 free parking spaces.

We also feel we have to share our own unfortunate experience we had when parking as a warning to future visitors to the hotels; we managed to park in a space at the front of The Birchfield Hotel but the spaces are set out as 2 lines of 4 and we parked behind another car, we immediately thought that this person is now blocked in and went to reception at The Ocean Hotel to ask what the procedure was if the car in front of us needed to get out. We were informed by the reception staff that this would rarely happen and that most people do not move their cars once parked until the end of the week. We asked again for confirmation that this would be okay and were reassured that it would be fine to leave the car where we had parked.
We returned to our car on the evening of the 8th September to find that the car we had parked behind was missing and a note on our windscreen saying “Thank you for being so considerate!” which we found both insulting and annoying as we had done our best to avoid this exact situation.
We fully understood why the owner of the car was annoyed and if we were in their situation we would have felt exactly the same but we followed the instructions we were given by the hotel receptionist.

We spoke to a resident of The Birchfield Hotel who told us they had to move 3 cars, plus seating and plant pots from in front of the hotel to be able to shuffle the car backwards and forwards to get it out fortunately causing no damage to either vehicle.

We also spoke to the manager of The Ocean Hotel both on the telephone that night, as there were no managerial staff on the premises, and in person the following morning but he said there was nothing that he could do which we felt was not acceptable as it was as if it did not matter, but if vehicles were damaged in the process who would be paying for that damage!

We feel that the parking arrangements need to be looked at and hotel staff need to be fully informed of the precise plan of action so that situations like this can be avoided in the future.

We also hope that the owners of the car that we unfortunately blocked in will read this comment and know that the hotel reception staff were at fault as they clearly had no idea what to advise residents with regards to the parking arrangements that caused this predicament and we felt the need to highlight this incident so other residents do not have the same experience.

Overall we enjoyed our weekend stay at The Ocean Hotel apart from this unfortunate incident which could have so easily been avoided

My husband and I recently spent a lovely weekend at the New Ocean Hotel and had a fab time. Had a little difficulty parking close to the hotel as all spaces had gone by the time we arrived but we soon found a space not to far away. All staff that we met were very pleasant and nothing was to much trouble for them. The food was delicious and with an all inclusive bar in the evenings from 6pm until 10pm, who could ask for more. We had a lovely room with a sea view, which we weren't expecting so was a lovely surprise, there was also a large bathroom with a great power shower. The only thing that we found a little awkward was that there was only one electric socket which had the tv plugged in to it which we had to unplug to charge our mobile phones but overall this did not detracted from our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

Can't wait to go back a big thank you to everyone for a fab weekend. Food very good and drinks too. The entertainment was a real bonus. The location excellent. We were really lucky with the weather but there are lots of places to go and of course free bus pass for us old enough to enjoy.
