Due to an administration error by Alfa, our request for low floor adjacent rooms and vegetarian option, was not forwarded to the hotel. We had booked on line in Oct 2011 and it was 2 weeks before we departed that we found out the hotel had no knowledge of our request. When I phoned the hotel I was told that we would be on seperate floors with us being on the 2nd floor (205)and our friends 1st floor (104) and they could not change this.My wife suffers from claustrophobia so our friends agreed to swap rooms. The reception area is the extreme right hand side and our room extreme left of the hotel ,so the 1st floor was a maze and caused some panic but we later discovered an easier route through the bar/ballroom.I had to forgo my vegi meal on our first night due to a mix up between reception area and kitchen although I was offered a salad.Vegetarian evening meals have to be ordered at breakfast time on the day.On arrival you are given a designated time for breakfast and evening meals, so if you are on a later booking ,it is possible not to have what you requested as it may have run out, but this only happened twice to us (chef's special and a dessert). Having said that, the meals are delicious and the chef must be worth his weight in gold to them. Our front facing room (104) was a bit dated and although the ceiling is about 15ft from the floor it was a tad on the small side( no bath only a shower)and our friends in (205) directly above ,almost twice the size of ours. The hotel staff are very cheerful and friendly and go out of their way to be helpful to everyone. The views from the patio/terrace, bar and lounge area are breathtaking with the Welch coast in the horizon. Our coach driver ,Phillip, was as cool as a cucumber, a wealth of knowledge and has the patience of Job and drove us to all our destinations safely.I took my i pad with me but would have been better leaving it at home as the reception is very poor ,although I believe that they are going to try and boost it up a bit.Leisureplex, the owners of the company should be pulling their fingers out refurbish this lovely old building as it is well situated and although the management and staff are doing their damness to please everyone, and doing it very well I might add, there is just so much they can do.The rooms could be doing with a phone system direct to reception, double glazing, perhaps a small safe and fridge which are common in modern hotels but then again its a matter of costs and as it mainly caters for elderly people and auld codgers like me I can't see that happening.
