Visited Weston Super Mare beginning of August. Went by coach on an Alpha Tour. Hotel was very good. Paid extra for sea view room and well worth it- nice room and nice refurbished bathroom -Room 19 on first floor. However, if you want an early night you dont want to be in that room as it is right above the bar/concert room. Very Good entertainment most nights as well as the usual Bingo session. The meals were very good also.
Only negative was the very uncomfortable beds.- seems to be a trait in the Leisureplex Hotels. Unless you like a very hard bed take a topper of some description with you.

Room Tip: Room 19 with sea view was lovely but be aware this is right over where the amps are for the entertai...

Due to an administration error by Alfa, our request for low floor adjacent rooms and vegetarian option, was not forwarded to the hotel. We had booked on line in Oct 2011 and it was 2 weeks before we departed that we found out the hotel had no knowledge of our request. When I phoned the hotel I was told that we would be on seperate floors with us being on the 2nd floor (205)and our friends 1st floor (104) and they could not change this.My wife suffers from claustrophobia so our friends agreed to swap rooms. The reception area is the extreme right hand side and our room extreme left of the hotel ,so the 1st floor was a maze and caused some panic but we later discovered an easier route through the bar/ballroom.I had to forgo my vegi meal on our first night due to a mix up between reception area and kitchen although I was offered a salad.Vegetarian evening meals have to be ordered at breakfast time on the day.On arrival you are given a designated time for breakfast and evening meals, so if you are on a later booking ,it is possible not to have what you requested as it may have run out, but this only happened twice to us (chef's special and a dessert). Having said that, the meals are delicious and the chef must be worth his weight in gold to them. Our front facing room (104) was a bit dated and although the ceiling is about 15ft from the floor it was a tad on the small side( no bath only a shower)and our friends in (205) directly above ,almost twice the size of ours. The hotel staff are very cheerful and friendly and go out of their way to be helpful to everyone. The views from the patio/terrace, bar and lounge area are breathtaking with the Welch coast in the horizon. Our coach driver ,Phillip, was as cool as a cucumber, a wealth of knowledge and has the patience of Job and drove us to all our destinations safely.I took my i pad with me but would have been better leaving it at home as the reception is very poor ,although I believe that they are going to try and boost it up a bit.Leisureplex, the owners of the company should be pulling their fingers out refurbish this lovely old building as it is well situated and although the management and staff are doing their damness to please everyone, and doing it very well I might add, there is just so much they can do.The rooms could be doing with a phone system direct to reception, double glazing, perhaps a small safe and fridge which are common in modern hotels but then again its a matter of costs and as it mainly caters for elderly people and auld codgers like me I can't see that happening.

Room Tip: Beware of booking on line as there is very little communication to booking office...

Dear Mr K

The hotel was advised of your requests on the rooming list (received by the hotel 10 days prior to your arrival) which clearly stated – "Request Adjacent rooms, low floor and vegetarian diet." Unfortunately the hotel did not have two double rooms next to each other on a low floor on the allocation of rooms for this tour. They had two doubles near to each other on the third floor but as you had also requested a low floor they thought you would prefer lower floor rooms above each other. You did not provide any information regarding your claustrophobia. When you arrived at 3pm, the Manageress asked you to study the vegetarian menu in the bedroom and to advise as soon as possible which meal you would like to order for that evening. You did not advise them until 6.15pm which was after the dining room was serving so it was too late to prepare your meal as service was already underway. Apart from this hiccup, the Management and staff were unaware that you experienced other shortcomings for which we apologise. Sea views are available for those who are on coach holidays as well as to private guests. Any requests that are made on our website bookings are passed to the hotel in the same way as those made through our booking office so there is no less communication by booking on line. In fact you often qualify for discounts on line which are not available when booking by other means.

This was our second stay at the Anchor Head Hotel, having been before in 2010. The hotel is excellent and the staff are extremely helpful. The food is varied and plentiful. The entertainment and quizzes are very good and the excursions very informative and enjoyable. Due to it's location the hotel is not easy to access if you are elderly or disabled, but if you take the time to make enquiries before booking, you will avoid disappointment.

Room Tip: sea view rooms worth paying extra for, but other rooms probably quieter

Thank you very much for your review and I was delighted that you had such an enjoyable stay. I have noted your comments about the location of the hotel and would advise that the buses run every half an hour in the season (Apr- Sept) and every hour out of season, to the Town and from Town. The bus stop is just on the corner by Birnbeck pier 2 minutes from the hotel.
Taxi fares are 3.50 into the town, and we will call from reception. If you share a taxi with other guests it works out at less than £1 each way (4 sharing). The walk into the town is only 15-20 minutes along the new promenade. Thank you once again and we look forward to welcoming you again to the Anchor Head or one of the other 19 hotels in the Lesiureplex Group.

Just come back from a week with family including elderly inlaws. My brief was to find a reasonably priced sea front hotel with evening entertainment, which is exactly what this hotel is. We were a bit perturbed on arrival to find that there was no car park, but after the weekend this did not prove a problem and we were always able to get on the street outside the hotel. We were also asked to pay up front, so asked to view the rooms which were lovely and clean, with views of the sea, a couple of islands over to Wales. All the staff were lovely and friendly, dining times are prescribed which put us off at first but we did get used to it! The only down side was the food which was not as wonderful as some of the reviewers had led me to believe. Mostly it was fine but some of the starters were a bit on the cool side, the salads were a bit tired and the vegetables were not brilliant. I think that this is partly because the hotel is part of a chain and the vegetables appear to be on the menu for all hotels all year. HAving said that the food was adequate, not haute cuisine but if you expect that with the price that we were paying expectations are a tad unrealistic I would say.
The entertainment kept the old uns happy, was of good standard and was finished by 11 o'clock most nights so did not keep us awake.
All in all, a very good value family hotel which caters more for older people.

I have just spent 7 days at this marvellous hotel. The manager Janet & her husband Malcolm
are a lovely couple and will do everything in their power to help you with any problems. The kitchen staff made very nice meals and the waiters were very good at their jobs. There was entertainment every night with Bingo, quizes, entertainers and the bar staff was very pleasing.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to go to Weston Super Mare for a holiday.
It was a pity about the weather with it raining but we still managed to have a lovely time.
The bus driver Terry was an excellent driver and took us on special tours on our free days, I certainly thought him extremely nice & wil never forget this week, even why I fly back to Australia

Room Tip: If you are disabled you can ask for a room with a shower and not a bath and there is a lift to all 3...

Stayed for 4 nights with a coach travel company. Stayed on a half board basis. The hotel was very good. Meals varied choice and well cooked. Sea view room was exactly as it said, the sea was virtually under the window. Good view of Holm Island and the south Wales coast. Nice on suite bathroom with shower that was easy to use unlike some others I have experienced. Staff were all very obliging and courteous and eager to help when necessary. Bar prices were a little steep with a pint of Guinness from a can at about £4. The only critisism was the order form for packed lunch. We thought we had ordered the full packsge for our trip home but only got 3 sandwiches which had too much butter/spread on them. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
