“Great stay”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

I have just returned from a lovely stay at Alfa's Anchor Head Hotel . The room was clean and comfortable, the food varied and well cooked, and the entertainment excellent. Janet the Manager and all the staff are professional and friendly, and our driver, Terry, is a credit to Alfa. I would be happy to stay there again and recommend Alfa, and The Anchor Head to anyone.

I went to this hotel in May 2013 the weather was really warm. The hotel was fully booked up. Service was good, rooms were clean and staff in kitchen & dining room were kept very busy.
On the bank holiday weekend we had 26 degrees and the whole of Weston was packed, all the car parks were full and cars were parking wherever they could. There were so many people on the beach and in the sea they had a ferris wheel and a few children's things o the beach, like the jumping castle, donkeys to ride.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise"

Along with my wife we stayed at the Anchor Head hotel for a five day holiday with Alfa Coach holidays As Liesureplex hotels are part of the Alfa organisation their coach holidays stay in them where ever possible. The hotel is situated at the east end of Weston, the back of the hotel being right on the sea front. The hotel is spacious and clean with a very helpful and friendly staff. Our room was large, clean and comfy. The bath room was also large with a modern walk in shower, double size. We were on the third floor and one disadvantage is that the lift is small,(it only takes three people), and very slow. There is a terrace at the rear which would be very pleasant when the weather is better than that we experienced. The restaurant, on the lower ground floor has some stunning views of the bay, as do the bar and lounge. Food was the usual Leisureplex menu and was well prepared and served hot and efficiently. I have a healthy appetite and I was not disappointed by either the choices available or the portion sizes. A lot of the staff are Eastern European, they maintain a high standard of service. Although the hotel is at the extreme eastern end of the resort there is a regular bus service, (every half hour), which passes the front of the hotel for those with walking difficulties, although the walk into the centre is very pleasant down the front for those able and willing and takes about 15 minutes. We shall probably return on the eight day tour some time in the future.

Room Tip: It would be worth paying a little extra for a sea view in high season as the rooms on the front are...

A pleasant hotel, one of the Leisureplex/Alfa group so the usual standard.
Room cleanliness better than other Leisureplex hotels I've stayed in, as always the decor is somewhat tired.
Entertainment was enjoyable, quite lively so we were able to get up and dance!
The food was a bit 'hit and miss', not always as hot as you'd like, one meal was actually burnt (obviously been too hot at some point!!), the waiting staff were lovely young people but struggling to get food out on time.
The hotel is located right on the seafront with beautiful views but a good walk to the town centre.
As always with these coach/hotel packages, you get what you pay for and overall pretty good value.

Drawing up to the Anchor Head on the coach, it has a faded Georgian elegance about it. The first experience of the staff had to be one of the fastest keys distributions ever ! Obviously they know that having just arrived all you really want to do is get to your room and collapse. On this occasion however we had to make a slight detour as the usual on-coach welcome had been shifted into the bar area, as the manageress was in plaster (note was in plaster, not was plastered) At this point the inadequacy of the only lift became apparent, it would only hold 3 people and given the ages of most of the folk on the coach this was a problem especially as the staff were also trying to use it to get the bags up to the room.
The room was pretty good, immaculately clean and hot as was the en-suite. The only complaint was the extractor fan, which as usual was linked to the light, was very noisy. Fantastic shower and plenty of hot water.
First meal was served at 6 and to be honest the "gammon" was slightly disappointing, being no more of a thick piece of bacon but there was a good choice of starters, mains and sweets. Breakfast next morning was better, with again a very good choice of cereals and main courses. eg porridge followed by reasonably good full English and toast and tea.
Overall this standard of food was maintained for the rest of the week and I really don't think that you could complain about it given that the whole trip was about 150 pounds and that included 2 coach trip out 1 to Bath and 1 to Cheddar Gorge.

The evening entertainment varied from not bad to very, very good. Dan Droid (stupid name but great singer) stunned everybody by finishing his first set with a rendition of bring him home that produced a sort of Susan Boyle moment, like the man said nobody expected that.

Look at it this way a cheap B&B would be at least £25 per night and that's £100 without travel there and back, evening meals and entertainment. So the only real question to Alpha travel is how the hell can you do it for the price!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front do not have a sea view but are not particularly noisy given the location is a lit...
