“Traditional but well sited”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

The hotel is very traditional and targetted at an aging market. What we had not been aware of on booking is that it is run by a charity and wish this was publicised as I feel it is a point of difference. We had a lovely room on the front (although noisey with late night revellers). Friendly staff, very clean room. Breakfast was not so good - you are put on a set table and cannot choose and staff were not very friendly first thing.

We stayed at the lauriston hotel in weston super mare on the 14th to the 16th august 2013. When we first arrived the reception workers were very helpful and quick at checking us in. Our room was very big and comfortable and clean. We had breakfast included where we had full english breakfast which was ok. We only had dinner there one night the starter oxtail soup was very watery and did not taste of oxtail soup as i know it, the main course we all had lasange with potatoes and veg which was very tasty. For dessert we had trifle and rhubarb crumble, trifle was very nice however the crumble topping was a bit mushy. Overall however a nice hotel would stay there again.

Room Tip: Some rooms have windows which do not shut allowing traffic noise to be heard throughout the night.

We had not realised this was a hotel run by Action for the Blind until we arrived. That was not a problem but it does account for the atmosphere within. It does not have the coldness of a purely professional hotel and as a wheelchair user it was useful that the staff were trained to aupport guests with whatever they needed.

Ther were extremely helpful and friendly and the chidlren loved the way the staff interacted with them, particuarly on the front desk.

The cost was reasonable and the room standard was good for a 3 star. I was not in a wheelchair accessible room but found the facilites entirely satisfactory. The general access is good although the lift is rather small.

We ate one night in the restaurant and although the food was a very reasonable costm it was also average in quality and choice.

The location really is on the sea front and this was idea for being on the beach with the chidlren as it was possible to nip back to the hotel in just a few mintues if we needed anything from the car or the rooms. It was also great at the end of the day getting the chidlren back after they had been playing or when it was raining. Also taking the chidren to the beach when they woke up at 5 am to keep them amused was possible.

If you have any difficulties at all and want a hotel that will be extra helpful, if you have a dog and want a hotel that accepts and also provides towels etc, if you have small chidlren and want to feel welcome then this is the hotel for you. If you want a sparkly romatic break then probably not.

Practically on the seafront, near The Playhouse and Wintergarden Theatres and with a small but pleasant park behind, this is a lovely place to stay for a relaxing holiday.

My wife and I had a room on the first floor with a sea view, my daughter and mother had a floor level room and both were very satisfactory. The bedrooms and passageways are all clean and uniformly carpeted, the beds were a little hard but provided a comfortable night's sleep. The bedrooms were fairly spacious with tea-making facilities and a reasonable amount of cupboard and chest-of-drawer space. Both rooms had small TVs but everything was more than adequate.

This is an an ideal place for older people with free wheelchair hire and wheelchair lifts to other floors. There is a good size drink bar and entertainment area, with seperate large TV /lounge room on another level. The hotel has a pleasant front lawn with garden tables and chairs providing a peaceful area to sit if the weather allows.

The service and staff were all commendable, the breakfasts were very nice with "Real" orange juice and excellent cooked meals. All-in-all a place to recommend though while we were there there wasn't a teenager or child in sight. It's not quite central but Weston is not that big so the main shopping area and small fairground is only 5 to 10 mins. walk away. Having their own car park is a bonus, but other than on busy days street parking is no problem and there is a centrally positioned multi-story car park as a last resort.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice but perhaps the rear of the hotel might look over the dogs area if you have one...

Can't explain with words how pleasantly surprised I was with this hotel! We chose it because its dog friendly... And we weren't disappointed! On the top, location is just fabulous , rooms are clean and well appointed, it's not a luxury hotel but certainly does the trick ... Great value for money.
Breakfast was very good, perfectly cooked poached eggs!
Thumbs up and I will go back when in the area! (Happy dog too!)

Just back from a few days break at the Lauriston. The Hotel was in a very good location, The room was very clean & spacious. Breakfast was good.
The only minor things we could fault was that before we had checked in & seen the room we were asked 'if we would like to settle the bill'. We declined and said we would pay on checkout which was ok. Also on one morning we were woken early by the gardener trimming the hedges with a noisy electric strimmer.
But would still recommed this Hotel.

Room Tip: Sea facing room is good
