Good hotel, clean and tidy friendly staff, food good but small portions! entertainment non existant !!! might have been better if the pier was open but still rebuilding and road works all along the sea front, not much night life.

Being regular Shearings travellers this hotel did not come up to expectations. Very short and brief entertainment programme, no dancing, People much happier when music was being played and bar more busy. Why cant they give better entertainment like the Savoy hotel in Bournemouth, where we were in July 10. Staff in Atlantic were polite and helpful but we will give this one a miss for a while.

Room was large and airy, and comfortable, carpets were grubby.TV very old.,Dining hall very clean, although food was poor. very small lift to cater for such a large hotel. and receptionist should have a course on how to be pleasant to guests.

This Shearings hotel has recently been refurbished to a good standard. My single
room (308) was a decent size with new carpet and curtains and had a sea view
The shower room was newly fitted and had an excellent power shower. Some
reviewers complain about creaking floorboards but I can honestly say that I never
heared a single creak during my four night stay !
The food was quite acceptable if rather basic , obviously within Shearings budget.
One night I ordered gammon and pineapple which was two small rashers of
thick bacon ! Breakfasts are good with plenty of choice including fresh croissants
and warm fresh bread rolls and a generous pot of coffee. Service is a little
haphazard. Every evening I had to collar the waiter and point out that I was ready
for my next course. While very polite they are obviously inexperienced and could
do with some basic training in the 'Art of Waiting'
The public areas are comfortably furnished but relaxation is spoiled by the pianola
which churns out the most monotonous dirge. Wish they would switch that off as
nobody liked it.
The excurtions on this holiday were very good, Cheddar Gorge ,Bath and Longleat
which is just as well as Weston is a bit 'fish and chips' with Vickie Pollards to be
seen all over the drab shopping area saved only by a Marks and Spencer.
A comfortable hotel on the whole with friendly helpful staff. I would gladly return here
next year when hopefully all the work on the promenade and pier have been completed.

We, that is myself, wife and Grand Daughter, have just returned from our 6th visit so feel entitled to give a balanced review.
Shearings presumably make the big policy decisions and the staff compensate for their mistakes.
Shearings call this a superior Hotel and assume that creaking floors and problems in some rooms with the decor will be accepted as part of the Victorian appeal. But they have decided to stop the Bingo ( too down market ?) which my wife and Grand Daughter enjoyed and the entertainment is very limited.. They presumably consider that in the dining room table cloths are not required and identical plastic daisies on every table accompanied by a paper serviette are OK for their package tour clients. The food is very good value but every course has a list of expensive alternates e.g Steak £9.99. The bar area has all the charm of a work's canteen and the furniture in the reception area is very poor quality apart from the Grand Pianola.
So why do we keep going ?
The hotel is perfectly situated and has a more than adequate car park. The sea views are marvellous (though Shearings apply eye-watering supplements). But the main reason we go back is that the staff are as old fashioned in their attitude as the Hotel itself which means thay go out of their way to make sure the guests enjoy themselves. The reviewer who complained about the receptionist must have been in the wrong Hotel.
Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this hotel to a friend because they, unlike us, might not be prepared to ignore the problems.

The decor in the restaurant, corridors and reception was impressive for such an old building. Our basic second floor room, although newly painted, was a bit tired-looking. (We have thrown away better bedside lights and larger and better tv's !) The bathroom was large but needed complete renovation and we struggled to work the shower.
However, there were many plus points. Hotel is 5 minutes from nearest shops and when the promenade is finished, a stone's throw from the sea.
Service was very good in restaurant and the menu was varied. There should be something to suit everybody. We didn't sample the cafe food but it was available if you didn't want to walk into town.

Surprisingly for a Shearings hotel, we experienced all age groups from babies upwards. We would recommend for coach and self-drive customers.
