This is probably the most bitterseet review I've written.
Stayed for 2 nights and, never having been to Weston-super-Mare, didn't realize how closely the Sandringham matches the town: old, mostly behind the times, but with a multitude of charms not often found.
First, the negatives: An old lift akin to a freight elevator where two gates must be closed upon exit or it's essentially useless. Leaving stairs that go up and down for no reason, and no continuous staircase from top to bottom. Postage-stamp sized single room with no place to open a suitcase. No air-conditioning (or screen if you open the window) or in-room internet.
But the place is a beautiful relic of an older time, with first-rate service, food and atmosphere. The pub has local (and good) entertainment at night, interrupted by bingo! The service (Karen) and camaraderie in the dining room is first-class as well. And there's a lovely lounge (where the internet works fine).
Finally, you can't beat the location, right across from the Grand Pier and an easy walk to shopping and restaurants. And great views of the very gently sloping beach where the tide seems to go about half-a-mile.
Not sure if I'd stay again, but it was an unusual respite, and a time to be fondly remembered.
