Gwydir Castle was a great find, a truly historic building. Numerous rooms having period furniture, wall tapestry's and paintings. A disabled person should however be aware of some difficult doorways and the spiral stone stairs.
Outside, there are 10 acres to wander around where you will meet the resident Peacocks, There is a single unisex toilet in the grounds. This magnificent building is being lovingly restored by the present owners.
We will certainly return to see how things are progressing

Such a wonderful place, with layers of interesting history. Can't believe it took me so long to visit! Amazing restoration work, you guys are my heroes. Bought the book and looking forward to starting it.

This is quite an important castle to the area and I am so glad I got to see it thanks to the hard restoration work of the couple who own it. In addition to the castle itself being very interesting, the grounds were quite beautiful. Enjoyed experiencing them on a warm sunny summer day. This was one of the highlights of my day.

Against all the odds, Judy and Peter have succeeded in saving this beautiful Tudor house from ending its life as little more than a ruin. They are still very much hard at work on the interior and one can only admire their determination. The story of the return from the U.S.A of the panelling that belonged to Gwydir many years ago gives a fascinating insight into the lengths they are willing to go to in order to restore the property to its former glory.
The grounds are home to magnificent 400 year old Cedars of the Lebanon which offer food and shelter to an amazing assortment of birds - and several squirrels. The resident peacocks definitely add that 'certain something' - I suspect they believe themselves to be the true owners of this particular castle!
