As far as locations in Richmond go, this has to be one of the best. Set at the top of Richmond Hill, just back from Richmond Hill Road, you only have to wander across the road to be at the top of Richmond Park and have wonderful views overlooking the Thames. Inside the hotel, the rooms are fairly small (understandable in a building of this age), and the beds extremely soft (perhaps the mattresses need replacing), but the service and the hotel amenities (the reception, spa and restaurant) more than make up for any shortfall. And to be honest, with Richmond Park that close to you, you shouldn't be spending time in the rooms anyway (except to sleep!)

I recently stayed here with my husband in the run-up to our daughter's wedding. We stayed for six nights before and after. Because of a mix-up with our booking (our fault) we originally stayed in a standard-sized room which was far too small given that we had tons of luggage with us. The staff did all they could to accommodate our needs and, as planned, we moved into an executive suite halfway through the stay, which was obviously much larger and better. I agree with other reviewers that the rooms could do with a refurb. Our daughter stayed in one of the suites before her wedding, which was lovely and spacious, and well decorated (except that the carpet could do with replacing!) There were other problems (air conditioning unit broke down twice and spilt water all over our belongings) but overall we were very happy with our choice. The staff couldn't do enough to help us: they were friendly, polite and very quick to sort out any problems. The food was really very good indeed and the staff in the restaurant were hardworking and friendly. A wide range of food offered, particularly for breakfast. Fabulous location, lots of parking space, great facilities. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable!

Room Tip: If you're staying longer than a couple of nights, choose an executive suite - it's more spac...

Thank you so much for your review of your stay with us and congratulations to your Daughter on her wedding. Richmond is a great location for Special Events and I believe the weather also helped over the period you were in town!
We are always delighted to read reviews which commend the hotel's staff and these comments will be passed on to the operational teams, as will the review of the restaurant food; thank you.
We look forward to welcoming you back at The Richmond Hill Hotel - maybe an annual destination for you and your family now!

Didn't get off to the best start, arrived at our allocated room to find cleaners just starting to prepare it. Embarrassing few minutes whilst annoyed maid rang reception to find out why we had been sent up. Room on the fourth floor little dated, cramped but great view of the Thames. Breakfast was excellent on both days, special praise to the waitress who served our table. The location is superb with The park and the town so close.
PS call in on the way down the hill (and on way back up) to the Victoria Inn, superb atmosphere, good ale and a great place to people watch.
Good few days stay but will try somewhere else next year.

Dear Barrie,

Delighted to read you enjoyed your time in Richmond Upon Thames, we are blessed with being situated in the most idyllic of locations. The view down upon Petersham Meadows is one of the most stunning in London. In fact conserving Petersham Meadows, culminated in the 1902 Act of Parliament, this has preserved the view of Petersham Meadows from Richmond Hill for posterity.

Hopefully you will return to Richmond Hill Hotel in the future to enjoy it.

Kind regards

Everything about this hotel stay was perfect. I booked to take my partner last August for his bday as we wanted to get away from the London hustle and bustle. Richmond is just breathtaking. I booked us a Junior suite which was an endless space with a fabulous large bath which fit about 4 ppl inside. The hotel is based on a hill and overlooks richmond park. The weather was beautiful and we walked into town and just enjoyed the surroundings. We were treated well and the fact they have their own car park was also a bonus. We cannot wait to return and we will definitely be staying in the same room which we felt like we were on holiday. 10 out of 10

Somebody has put a lot of effort into ensuring that the staff are professional and friendly. Not fake friendly, but actually personable and with a sense of humour. Sadly, some of the rooms are in dire need of a refurb. This is actually happening (the ongoing work is discreet and not a problem) I was there with a party and got an opportunity to see the upgraded rooms, which were fine.

Our room was small and noisy, due to a massive industrial hvac unit outside. The bathroom fan did not work and I was told that several rooms had this problem. The bedroom carpet was dirty. Drinks making facilities are provided, but I had to ask twice for extra milk. The amount provided seemed a bit stingy to me. The highly featured pool and spa is open to non-residents, in particular, families with young children, and the sauna was not working. It was, however, very clean and functional. WiFi access was overly complicated and intermittent.

Sandwiches, served in the public areas, were excellent - and apparently different according to which chef was on duty!

Provided you make sure to book one of the recently upgraded rooms, this represents a good example of its type.

I was there as part of a wedding party. Weddings are popular in the hotel and there will be noise.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently re-furbished room. There is a rolling schedule of upgrading.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comprehensive review of your time spent with us at Richmond Hill Hotel, I am pleased that you enjoyed your time with us.

Your comments regarding the team are very pleasing; I have some excellent people who I have the pleasure of working alongside. They enjoy hospitality and trying to make each person’s stay memorable, it is pleasing to read that this is noted.

I am sorry to hear you were disappointed by the room allocated, our rooms do vary in shape and size and we try to move guests if they make us aware of their concerns. This is not always possible but in most cases alternatives can be found. I am pleased you found the sandwiches enjoyable, they should be the same whoever makes them, I will pick up you point with the chef, but ultimately as long as they are fresh and delicious and you liked them that is the most important thing.

The pool area is not open to the public however it does have a local membership. During the summer children’s hours can become quite busy, however these are restricted to allow adults to have a leisurely swim. These timings are advertised on the in room information and at the reception desk.

I understand that you may try another place to stay next year, but if thinking of returning please contact us and we will make sure you are allocated a different room, even a newly refurbished one to try.

Kind regards

Diane

On the whole the stay was very good. The staff were welcoming and helpful from the front of house to the restaurant and bar. The rooms looked a little tired and the one we were put in was small but it was clean and new bedding and towels were provided each day. There was no guest information provided in the room which was a little odd. The leisure facilities were nice but also open to the public. As it was school holidays it was very busy! The food in the restaurant was amazing! Well worth a try. We got a deal through Expedia and glad we didn't pay full price for the stay.

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for posting your review on Trip Advisor regarding your stay. As stated in previous replies, it is lovely to hear such positive comments about the staff; they all strive hard to make a customer experience a great stay. They relish when this is noted on reviews such as yours.

The team in the kitchen have provided some delightful dishes for our guests to enjoy, changing weekly this allows seasonal fresh produce to be turned into tasty meals, I am delighted this was enjoyed by you both.

Some of our rooms do suffer with being a little small; we are due to start a refurbishment programme in the New Year which we hope will address this.

Thank you once again for posting your feedback; we hope to welcome you back again.

Kind regards

Diane

This is in my opinion the best hotel in Richmond, which is one of the nicest locations in London. The hotel itself is well worth it's four stars with friendly staff, a pool and a gym, with good catering facilities....a few little niggles with the rooms, but overall great ......you can just wander down the hill overlooking london following in the footsteps of the Victorians down to the village like Richmond Town which has so much to offer....probably not the best place if you have business in central london, but otherwise I recommend it to you as a really nice place to spend a little holiday

Room Tip: not sure how to advise, I guess you get what you pay for, i have had okay rooms and better rooms, ma...

Dear Hussain,

Thank you for posting such a positive review of your recent time with us at Richmond Hill Hotel, we are delighted to read that you enjoyed nearly every aspect of your stay.

The walk down to Richmond Town centre is beautiful, following in the footsteps of so many indeed. The views have been painted by many famous artists dating back to Sir Joshua Reynolds in 1788 and Joseph Turner in 1815, to name but a few.

I do hope you return again,

Kind regards
