We stayed in The Petersham Hotel for two nights over the weekend. The hotel is very beautiful, it is a small hotel that still manages to be quite grand.
Check-in was swift and the staff we're very polite. We had a woodland view room at the back, we would have liked a river view room but the price difference was too much. The room was smaller than anticipated but very clean and nicely decorated. The bed itself was not the most comfortable and we both agreed that we have definitely slept in better, also the room was very warm- we managed to take the radiator cover off to turn it off and even at that the heat was a lot to take in the middle of the night. The bathroom is comfortable and spotless. If you are staying for a longer period of time try request a room with some storage (if possible) as there was little to none in our room.
In our short stay our room door was knocked on by housekeeping twice needlessly. After breakfast on our first day we went back up to our room to see it was already cleaned, we had left the ready to be cleaned sign on the door handle, but then an hour later our door was knocked on. Then the following morning at 9.30 our door was knocked on by housekeeping again. Bare in mind checkout is not till 11.00, so although a very small gripe, it was a little annoying, as then it felt as though someone might just walk in.
We loved the restaurant for our evening meal. The set menu, although limited, is good value and we both found dishes on it we really enjoyed. The food was portioned well and very tasty. We were really well looked after and it felt like a special experience rather than going to just any restaurant.
Breakfast was not great, we both got the Full English and it was OK, it was quite small and just not much to it. The breakfast menu was quite limited too. Again though, the service and surroundings were lovely, with a beautiful view of the river and countryside.
The hotel was very quiet, no music or liveliness, but coming from the city and looking to relax, we appreciated this.
The location is a short walk from Richmond Town or a very short bus (3mins). It was nice not to be right in the centre. The hotel is just across the road from the river too, which is lovely for a nice walk.
Check-out was smooth and again the staff we're extremely friendly.
