“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

Great room and very helpful staff. Evening meal was good although it had to be pre booked, I would rather choose at the time. Breakfast was very good plenty of everything with a good choice. The bed linen was very good quality and lovely to sleep in.

Thank you for your recent review. I was very sorry to read that you described your stay with us as “Worst night's sleep in a hotel EVER”. I must admit it’s always difficult when the main basis of a guest complaint is due to other guests and whilst I appreciate that we have an older building that creak s on occasion. I can further understand if the occupant above you has been packing the majority of the night or the guest in the next door arguing how frustrating this must have been and unfortunately a little out of our control but non the less should not occur. After an investigation with my Night team it is regrettable that your disappointment does not appear to have been highlighted or addressed by the Night Manager visiting your room or having any discussion with you regarding the noise you describe. I a wish to assure you that they would have politely visited the offending rooms we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to do so.
I do acknowledge that you did speak with reception the following morning and then the Duty Manager and did report some of the issues you describe. I further acknowledge that you decided not to stay a second night yet you have omitted to mention that your room was offered as a gesture for the remainder of stay for either for a late departure of 8pm (as requested by yourself )or for the remainder of your night the choice was yours I understand you accepted this offer.
I do take on board your comments relating to rooms Wi-Fi it was unfortunate that the service was not working effectively in that area, however a full service was available throughout the public areas.
It is always disappointing to read that someone has not enjoyed their stay for which I am genuinely sorry. It is only through comments such as those you have made that we are able to improve our standard and service.
Thank you once again for your feedback

We stayed for one night in an executive room through a voucher. I wouldn't have paid the full amount but thought for what we got it was excellent. The room was quite, warm and spotless. I found that the water temperature for the bath not hot enough, but that's a small gripe. The breakfast was self serve and by 9am was cold and rather hard, the plates cold. The location for Richmond Park is wonderful. Would visit again but only on a voucher system.

Stayed here for two nights at the end of September whilst on business in Richmond and it was more than adequate. However if you´re expecting or celebrating something special you might be disappointed. The rooms are furnished well enough and clean but a bit on the small side( for more than one person), breakfast was the only meal I ate in the hotel and that was pretty average, the bar was continually deserted and the hotel has more of a 3* feel rather than a 4*. On the plus side the staff were friendly and quick to help when needed and it´s only a 10 minute walk into the centre of Richmond. In fairness I didn´t have time to try the spa facilities which I assume is the reason for the price of the rooms.

Really dark and dingy rooms, big enough to just fit the bed for a really hefty price. Very few options in the menu if you want to order food. Not a great place to crash in any way. The staff at the reception can be friendly though which is the only plus!

My husband and I stayed at the Richmond Gate Hotel from November 1 to November 3 2013 because we could not get accommodation at our first choice hotel in Richmond, because of the international Rugby match. It was my birthday and the hotel provided champagne and fruit in our room, which was a really nice touch and much appreciated.

However, we had booked an Executive room which was very expensive and very over priced for the facilities available. The room was very small and had a view over the conservatory roof! The room was stuffed with furniture and we were tripping over ourselves. The mirror inside the wardrobe door was on the wrong side - you could not open the door because a bedside table was in the way which could not be moved because of the bed. I think when you pay the price we paid, these small things should have been sorted out.

The bathroom was nice but when I ran a bath the water was not hot enough, and the temperature couldn't be altered so it was a quick bath rather than a long soak.

We did not have breakfast which was an extra as it was much cheaper to buy breakfast in Richmond itself. I think breakfast should have been included in the price of the room.

This hotel is resting on its laurels and the management need to either upgrade the rooms or downsize the prices.

Room Tip: Don't go for the executive rooms - they are not worth the money

As a frequent visitor to Richmond I have often stayed at the Richmond Gate Hotel. It's situated at the top of Richmond Hill and very close of the entrance to Richmond Park. The hotel is comfortable and well appointed with access to the Cedars Health Club. All the rooms I have stayed in have been comfortable and generous in size with flat screen tv and excellent bathrooms. I have only ever eaten breakfast as we tend to eat out in the numerous Richmond restaurants and that was the only negative point. Breakfast wasn't up to previous standards and was a hot buffet with limited options. That aside the Richmond Gate offers good value accommodation in a great location.
