“Great stay, helpful friendly staff”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

Very nice and clean, great location and quiet. Staff helpful and friendly and actually noted my special dietary need when booked on line and catered for this. Only missing a big fluffy towel (smaller ones provided) Would recommend. Will stay again.

Rooms are clean, with nice marble decorated bathroom and deep sinking bathtubs.
Rooms vary greatly in size, so check with reception when you check in.

Continental breakfast served is good, and for GBP5 you can have basic english breakfast (2 toasts, eggs, one sausage). Bar and breakfast staff were friendly.

Location is in a residential street a bit back from the town center. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the Richmond train station and main street.

Only negative of the stay was reception staff:
- blond lady was unfriendly, never smiled, looked like she wish she were elsewhere at all times!
- when drunk, loud guys came back from their night of drinking, they stayed in the reception forever chatting loudly and laughing, and woke me up. I really wish reception staff had cared enough about their other guests to ask them to step into the adjacent dining room and close the doors of the dining room and the door to the hall way leading to the bedrooms: this would have protected sleeping other guests from the noise.
This kind of extra attention (or common sense!) is what separate good service hotels from those who just don't care enough.

Room Tip: This hotel is located in an old building, and most rooms seems to be different in size and layout...

Good things; We stayed in a lower floor room right at the back, which was every quiet. The bath water was very hot and filled quickly. Bathroom was lovely- modern and well furnished. Bed was comfortable.
But....someone needs to take time to review just how some small things could make such a big difference to customer care. Eg: the towels are tiny, the pictures on the walls are truly dreadful. To only supply the minimum of tea bags and milk is stingy. The continental breakfast is poor: cheap ham, horrible cheese, watered down orange juice, horrible coffee, mass produced cheap brioche. A full english breakfast charged extra at £10 is a rip off; it would cost no more than £4 in a roadside cafe and is the same quality. Staff were ok, but not exactly welcoming. There is absolutely no nod to luxury or quality, and it feels like the whole place is trying desperately to save money in all areas. This might well be the case, as it is a biggish hotel, and all the staff were Eastern European, which is fine, if they can speak English well enough to explain what a 'half English breakfast is' . When I asked for more of the horrible coffee just hopeful to get something hot, the waitress looked surprised.
The room advertised was supposedly discounted from £165 to £85. Had I been charged the so called full rate, I would have been asking for a refund.
So, to sum up, this is just about an ok hotel, but with some attention to detail by someone with some taste, it could be so much nicer. Sorry! I don't often bother to post here, but felt so cross about it that I needed to share.

Room Tip: There was no swimming pool, but couldn't undo the tag.

Booked this hotel at the last minute for New Yrs Eve and we were very pleasantly suprised.
The staff were really helpful and full of smiles even though they were working on New Yrs! We got back to the hotel at about 4am and they were happy to serve us a nightcap at the bar.
The rooms were lovely and spacious, very clean, beds were comfy and so were the pillows.
The tube or train is a 5 minute walk where you can easily access London or wherever you may be going.
I would definitely go back to this hotel and I would definitely recommend it.
Only one down side, breakfast was included in my booking and after a heavy night I was looking forward to a full English but being as it was New Yrs Day (?) it wasn't on te menu so we had tea and toast instead!!

Adequate and clean accommodation. Well appointed bathroon.
Poor selection of food at breakfast and inadequate (croissants ran out very early)
Staff pleasant but unhelpful (e.g. no assistance was offered when getting luggage to and from car although 2 male staff members sitting around). Awkward to get luggage from car park to hotel and very difficukt to stop outside without causing trraffic problems..
Every part of hotel was clean, and location was extremely convenient for our purpose.

We have used this hotel about 4 times now, whilst down for a weekend trip to London for the Rugby in near-by Twickenham. As per tradition we meet a group of friends in a pub in Richmond before and after the game and usually find a restaurant to eat in also.

We did used to stay in Putney (much further away) as it was handy to the motorways for the trip home, im telling you this - as we switched to Richmond accommodation when we started to get the train down rather than bring the car.

You see this hotel is excellently placed just behind the main street of Richmond and only about an 8-10 minute walk from Richmond train station. Once you are settled you are then only a 5 minute walk back into Richmond itself and all the bars/restaurants/shops etc etc.

As for the actual hotel, well, it doesn't disappoint. Its very clean, well laid out with many rooms to suit all types of visitors. The staff are friendly and particularly at breakfast will cater to pretty much your every requirement!
There is off road parking at the rear of the hotel.

Rooms (obviously depending which type you book) are pretty spacious with TV and tea & coffee making facilities, all the ones we have experienced have very nice, well-lit bathrooms too.

We haven't dined in the evening here but have had breakfast on all occasions. This is the only slight sticking point.... not the food, as there's plenty on offer, from continental cheeses, savouries, cereals, juices, toasts, jams, tea & coffee to a full English.
The slight hiccup that can occur (as we found on our latest visit) was that for a hotel of this size, the dining room isn't really big enough. It probably seats about 30-35, not normally a massive problem, yet on this occasion we luckily managed to get the last available table for 2 (at 9:10am) and noticed probably 10-12 more people come in and struggle for a seat and have to wait, or be happy with a bar stool and eat on the bar.

All in all a great hotel for a few days stay, comfortable with all the usual facilities and friendly staff and a good cooked breakfast in the morning (just get down handy!)

Will definitely be using many times more! :-D

My wife and I needed to stay somewhere close to central Richmond and Kew Gardens for one night. This hotel met those needs. We booked at the last moment and got a good price (£85 including breakfast). But I would not stay here if I had to pay much more. The staff were morose, the decor tired and the breakfast poor quality. Our bedroom was clean and the bathroom excellent. Our bedroom overlooked a small side road and, with double-glazed windows, was very quiet.
