Have just stayed at the Rose of York for a long weekend during a cousins wedding nearby. While the street next to the Hotel as well as the Hotels ventilation system can be quite noisy sometimes, the premises are beautifully redone and tastfully decorated, the food (I had breakfast and lunch) was excellent, and the service was simply outstanding. The management hast just changed, so I hope what we experienced was not simply due to the managements beginners enthusiasm, but all members off staff absolutely went out of their way in terms of friendlyness and trying to read our every wish before we could even say it. I's the the kind of service that's really hard to find anywhere in Europe at the time. Extremely quick, extremely discreet, extremely friendly, full of effort. Thank you!

Room Tip: Take a room away from the street.

Room was clean with a good clean bathroom. Generally tired decoration and windows desperate to be repaired of rot. Did not like the fact that outside seating was allowed on balcony right outside the room window, unpleasant if smokers were there and more importantly lack of privacy and security.
Very surprised at lack of customers. There was only our party of 12 on Friday eve for dinner and rooms and breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday.
Would consider staying here for a cheap accommodation place but it is not a hub of life!

Just returned from stay at this establishment, have to say what a pleasant experience! We normally stay at The Petersham,or Richmond Gate but the prices at these places have risen so much that it becomes questionable as to whether it is worth spending as much cash on a weekend! We decided after this weekend that The Rose Of York, will be our 1st choice in future! The room was clean, the bed linen and towelling were clean as indeed so was the bathroom, which when it comes down to it,for a weekend or overnight stay that is all that is required! The breakfast was excellent and served by a very friendly lady and overall a good experience all round, especially when one realises that its possible to stay 2 nights here for the price of 1 on The Hill! Thanks to the staff once again.

What a find. Having lived in Kingston for 7 years I can't believe we never went to this pub before. Excellent Sunday lunch with tradional English puddings and what a view on a sunny day. I would recommend this pub to everyone but with a piece of advice. Get there early as the Cavery sells out because it is so good.

Consistent in providing good selection of drinks and food including Sunday roast, decent enough in both quality and quantity. As some reviewers pointed out it is not a gourmet gastro pub and it never pretended to be in all the years it's been there servicing locals and visitors to this beautiful part of London on the Thames. Situated just below the Petersham Hotel, with river view from some tables, and there's an outdoor area for the days that is not raining.

We live locally and finally got round to having Sunday lunch at the Rose Of York. For £8.95 the roast was excellent and with generous helpings, much more than the poncy morcel of meat and token veg you'd get in Richmond town centre for £5 more. The pint of bitter i had at £2.90 much be the cheapest i have ever had in London. Luckily the pub is far enough out of Richmond to keep away the usual hordes of buggy pushing middle class types you normally encounter in Richmond. Thank God!! Thoroughly recommended.

As locals, we go to a number of Pubs/Restaurants and The Rose of York has it's position going for it plus you can park there as we'll.
It trades well, my wife and I presume, because of it's location but as far a Pub Food goes it's truly dreadful.
We ordered a Quiche which should have been interred in the last century, how it could be served this century was beyond belief.
I decided on something reasonably easy to get right which was Tortellini that arrived as a gloopy mush over cooked, drowned in some kind of "sauce" which tasted like puréed cardboard and a meal my dog would refuse on the grounds of animal cruelty.
The Crab Cakes (as a shared starter) were the only thing vaguely edible.
I've given it 2 Stars because they did, without question, replace the 'Quiche' and we felt that the Bar staff tried.
But in an industry where people have become far more discerning serving up stuff like this, which was truly dreadful, can only harm them in the long term.
There are countless other and better places to go where the quality of Food is so much better.
