We enjoyed a short break- 4 nights - with HF Holidays. We had the 'Bishop's room' on the top floor of the old part of the house, which had probably the best view in the place. Room was huge, if a bit old fashioned, and for future stays we will book a room in the new wing.
As for all HF houses the meals were superb - without exception. Staff were brilliant and could not have been more helpful.
As a few other reviewers have mentioned this Hotel is owned by HF and the majority of guests are partaking of one of the walking packages. If you are booking independently please bear that in mind. The place is great, but is very much geared to HF guests and their activities.

Room Tip: Certain rooms are classed as "premium" and attract a surcharge. The 'Bishop's Room...

We really enjoyed our stay here at Alltshellach. We were in one of the rooms in the modern extension - the rooms were very modern, decently sized and the bathroom beautiful. The pool and jacuzzi were a great bonus also. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were happy with everything. Breakfast was generous and offered plenty of choice. Note that this hotel is mainly used for package walking holidays. If you are booking online for just accomodation, you'll be in the minority. But this didn't bother us, because we were of only two couples in the hotel that week! (they'd cancelled the package due to low numbers). At only 80GBP per night for our stay, this was excellent value, being the best hotel we stayed at during out week long tour of Scotland.

Great location on the edge of the loch. Our bedroom was in the old part of the building overlooking the gardens and loch - no complaints. A lovely building, part of the Holiday Fellowship community so no individual tables for breakfast. This was actually rather lovely as we talked to several different people and had a friendly start ot the day. The pool was gorgeous. Evening meal is a set three course dinner which would not suit everyone and did not suit us so we walked to the Loch Leven Hotel next door and had a bar meal which was fine.

We stayed one night here recently on B&B and thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of the hotel is booked by organised walking holidays and as long as you're aware this is not a traditional hotel when you book, then it ticks all the right boxes.
We had a twin room in the 'new' wing - akin to a new Premier Inn style room in that everything was fresh, clean, comfortable, stylish bathroom with good shower, digital TV etc. The pool is excellent, and one of the best jacuzzis I've been in.
The welcome was warm, and everything was explained to us about dinner option (served at 7.30 one sitting, communal tables - we chose to eat at Holly Tree Inn nearby) and breakfast timings. Breakfast tasty and cooked to order - as long as you're happy making small talk with strangers in the morning, then this is fine.
Wifi availability is becoming a standard expectation and code is available to access for free as should be the case everywhere.
I'd recommend it as long as you're not looking for room service, lunch, bar service in the afternoon.

Just spent two days here and the location is beautiful, as told before it is mainly for walkers and it is very strange to have no welcome and your key and room number on a table in the foyer, if you are on a B & B basis which we were. We had booked one night and wanted to book another but had to back on-line to do so as they don't do bookings there. But I did manage to book another night and thanks to one of the ladies, she managed to let us stay in the same room.

Pool room and hot tub great as no-one in the hotel but us and they were all out. It was a lovely sunny day and you could have sat outside but unfortunately we couldn't get a cup of tea or anything as the bar doesn't open till 6pm and couldn't find anyone.

Had a room in the West Wing and must admit is was lovely very modern clean and comfortable.

The hotel is not geared up for anything but walkers which is a shame as it is in a fantastic location, Entertainment for the evening was games of whist. and monopoly. the bar was empty so an early night for us.

Breakfast is at big tables which is strange but not too bad as long as you don't want a private conversation, people were friendly enough and the food was good.

There is a little path to the right of the hotel which comes out at the Leven Hotel and had an evening meal there which was very good and not as expensive as the Alltshellach and we could sit together.

I enjoyed my stay but the hotel was not for us. If you would like a lovely place to stay which is quite and peaceful in a great location and you like to mix in and play games then this maybe for you.

Room Tip: In the new annexe

My Favorite New Year Destination, we return most years as a family, and I have been there 16 times out of the last 20 New Years. This family feel can be felt throughout the house, as many of the guests return each year, to bring in the New Year, with friends in an amazing setting.

The Guest House continues to improve, the accommodation is excellent, as are the facilities, and especially the staff. However there are very few activities for children as the house is aimed towards adults participating in a walking holiday, however there is a play park just round the corner from the Hotel, furthermore there is a pebble beach at the rear of the house.

There is a indoor pool, a spa Jacuzzi, table tennis table, DVD facilities in one of the lounges, as well as board games, a drying room and boot room, as boots are not allowed inside the house.

Also for those who are interested in climbing, the ice factor is nearby in Kinlochleven, where you can ice climb or climb regular climbing walls.

I will continue to travel here as much as I can, every new year.

Room Tip: The new block, is £5 extra per night, for this you get far better en-suits, as well as larger rooms...

We were greeted by the very friendly, but efficient Nicki, and taken to the bar; Having chosen our courses we sat and chatted in what used to be the Bishop's chapel until taken through to the beautiful dining room. Service with a smile, not claustrophobic, made the meal a very enjoyable experience. But most of all, the food quality is second to none for this price range. This place is a hidden gem and without doubt better than all but the most expensive in the area. James and Nicki deserve praise in adding these gastronomic feats to the normal Holiday Friendship enterprise. They also put on functions and we are looking forward to ours in December.

Room Tip: If in doubt, ring James or Nicki for advice.
