“An excellent value,welcoming, small hotel”
Reviewed 25 October 2009

The service we received was excellent throughout our two day stay.
Staff were friendly and approachable.
The room was quite small, with one or two repairs being undertaken at the time. This was all explained by the owner. Room was clean and was of an acceptable standard.
Location was ideal for touring the highlands and islands.
Meals were of a high standard and the bar served an excellent pint of Guinness.
Internet access was a bit hit and miss, but then you would expect that in the highlands.
Just what you would imagine a great small hotel to be - would heartily recommend

We stayed for 10 days here with our two dogs and we had a wonderful time. The weather wasn't the best but we got in plenty of sightseeing, and good walks nearby. We had Room 12 which was nicely decorated and which boasts a lovely shower/bathroom. This room was perfect for us and the dogs, being on the ground floor with patio doors overlooking the garden and loch. The views were stunning.

We had excellent food and service and enjoyed some good nights in the bar where people were very friendly. The staff worked well together and were obviously happy and this comes across to the guests. It's rare to be able to give an excellent rating but on this occasion we really couldn't find anything that wasn't good. We would certainly come back again. Well done Hilary and John and all the staff and thank you for a really good holiday.

Booked this hotel by accident as we had driven past the beautiful loch previously and made a mental note to return. I planned on booking a nearby lochside hotel but booked this one by mistake due to a promient road sign!. However It was a mistake I do not regret. The location is stunning. The loch and bridge are beautiful and it is a great base for so many nearby places (eg Glencoe, Nevis, Fort William, Castle Stalker, Western isles etc). Have read other reviews and think some are harsh. Maybe the rooms are not absolutely perfect but it is an old building but they are decent enough plus we had a beautiful view over the loch towards mountains which more than made any minor fault up. The hotel does have a real family run atmosphere and the staff went out of their way to help us, such as helping us plan routes and trips that my local knowledge would never have achieved. The food was fantastic and of good quality. The staff in the lounge bar could not have been more helpful and were respectful, attentive and chatty without any formality or stuffiness. We ate in the loch view restaurant which was also fantastic and I could have sat there all night. We had a few post dinner drinks in the "locals" bar which was a bit more lively, full of characters and obviously a hub for the village. The breakfast room and breakfast was nice enough although would have liked to have had it in the loch view restaurant to make it perfect. I have stayed and worked in a vast range of hotels all over the country and have never been more aware of a such a genuine family-run ambience in many other places. we checked out the hotel I had "planned" to stay in and although maybe more fancy, I was glad I had booked where I had. I was genuinely sad to leave after our two nights and will definately return soon.

We arrived at this hotel in the pouring rain after driving all day. To our dismay the owner greeted us by saying she had given away the particular room I had booked, given a credit card guarantee for and had received a written confirmation. I’d arranged this by phone several weeks in advance, and was staying there only because I was offered this particular room. She said she gave it to a man who didn’t like his room and he was staying for 4 nights whilst we were only staying for one. She offered us a choice of two other rooms at a reduced rate, one with the wrong bedding configuration and the other we reluctantly accepted as we were too weary to look for another hotel. She said it was over the kitchen but we didn’t realise its noise and odours would be so unpleasant. My opinion of the hotel is affected by this incident and the on-going refurbishment of the hotel which needs to be completed to be up to a three star standard. However, the location beside the loch is good and the staff were pleasant.

After 10 years we re-visited Scotland and were so lucky to stay for 6 days at the Loch Leven Hotel. All the members of the staff are very friendly. The owners are great people. They gave us a very welcome feeling and made our stay unforgetable. They and Kelpy, the dog, made us feel at home. No complaints what so ever. Good food and a clean room every day! And the view over the loch and mountains....... never seen anything so impressive! Great fishing spot.

Nice room, confortable and clean. Very well situated in West Highlands. Good food at restaurant and for breakfast. Service OK. We were just disappointed because we were expecting a small family hotel, and it is actually quite big, the atmosphere is not cozy at all, specially at dinner in the restaurant.

We stayed in one of the family rooms at the Loch Leven Hotel. I called ahead as we were going to arrive a little later than I hoped and when we got to the hotel we were greeted very warmly and shown to our room, reservation made in the restaurant for us and overall great first impression. The room overlooked the Loch which was really lovely. The room was clean and presentable. I'm surprised at some of the negative comments as we found the staff to be very friendly. We ate in the restaurant at night and had a lovely meal. The service was just right, not too quick and certainly not slow. The breakfast in the morning was made fresh to order. We will definately stay again.
