“Great Find”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

I was looking for somewhere to stay and was annoyed with the over priced hotels in and around Cambridge. This is a fantastic rural location within easy reach of Cambridge (even though I was actually working in Harston). Great value, lovely room and a breakfast to set you up for the day. Loved the linen sheets and comfy bed. Will definitely stay again and will recommend to my colleagues for future stays.

We were quite happy with our 3 night stay at Beech Farm. The room we were in was quite large and very comfortable, with lovely furnishings and a beautiful bathroom, with a fridge on the landing which came in quite handy. Jonathan and Jackie are very friendly hosts and it was nice to share travelling stories with Jonathon whilst relaxing over their lovely breakfasts. Your porridge has been the best so far in England.
We had very good meals at the Queens Head? in Harston and enjoyed our park & ride trip into Cambridge and also a hop on hop off bus around the City.
The little convenience store in Harston was handy. All said was very happy in this lovely little village.

The room looked great, tastefully decorated, and the en-suite equally good, but things went downhill from there. It was very hot in the room when we got there and we turned the radiator off. Despite this, and it being a very mild September, the house was too hot and we baked during the night, with the option of the most enormously thick duvet or nothing. The result was that we slept badly, due in part also to the very hard mattress.
Breakfast was ok, but nothing great, and there was little in the way of warmth from the hosts. There was no 'morning pastry selection' in evidence, and the 'fresh fruit' consisted of a couple of very aged bananas and a few equally aged satsumas. Overall impression was that they couldn't be bothered.
The shower was pretty good, and the location great for Cambridge, but it just wasn't good value and we wouldn't want to return.

I very rarely have to stay in cambridge and found this place as the B&B I have used once before was full. Harston is a lovely little village just south of cambridge and I have often thought about staying here if I needed to.

Beech Farm is down a quiet side street with a nice pub at the top of road for dinner. Their are some pigs, chickens and geese kicking around to welcome you as you enter the farm which was nice and added to the real farmhouse feel. The room was very nice and well appointed, lovely sheets on the bed and the en suite was fantasticly decorated with a large shower. Very nice scammbled eggs (you pre-order breakfast the night before).

Location is good if you want to explore Cambridge, with the park and ride 3 miles away and city centre a further 2 or 3.

It was quiet and relaxing, only downside was a personal opinion that the mattress was very hard, so I had a broken sleep. Also the shower pressure was a little week.

All in all a nice B&B that deserves use.

Just our opinion, the place seemed like it had better days. The room, which was the biggest, needs a major refresh. It doesn't look as nice in person as it does in the photos. There was nothing cheery or pleasant about the whole experience from the hosts to the grounds, the rooms and even the breakfast room. The room was cold on arrival and I had to ask for heating after an hour or so. Breakfast was fine but nothing special at all. Very average and basic. For the price that we paid, I felt that we paid well over the top and felt a bit cheated in the end as we could have done better. For that price, this place should be a 5 star B&B and it certainly wasn't in our book. I'd have to say that I wouldn't be able to suggest this B&B to anyone unless they put a bit more effort into it and lower the price significantly. Really disappointed.

We are genuinely sorry to hear this experience at Beech Farm did not live up to expectations. It was disappointing for us to hear, however, we take on board all comments and respond for the benefit of future guests;

1) We have decorated our home in neutral themes and I admit it may not be to everyones taste, our aim is for a relaxing and restful feel.
2) Guest comfort is very important to us. Our rooms do have on/off radiator controls for guests to use.
3) Our home is a traditional Farm House, in grounds that are part of a working farm, which is over 200 years old. We enjoy sharing it's history and uniqueness with guests, and we will continue to maintain it's character.

I have noted that from 19 reviews, 15 are Excellent, 3 are Very Good and the one above is Poor. But even 1, is 1 too many, and we continue to look at our services with a critical eye.

This was a nice place to stay with a comfortable room. Breakfast was good and we had a pleasant weekend. We thought that £85 was a little expensive.

We did not mention whilst we were there as there was nothing that could be done about it during our stay but the shower pressure was weak.

My wife and I decided to take a short break in order to visit Cambridge, Wimpole Hall and Anglesey Abbey. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have discovered Beech Farm. It's just a short distance from Trumpington Park and Ride and is ideally situated for the places we wanted to see. Also, it's in a quiet and peaceful rural setting and offers everything you could wish for. The accommodation and facilities are of a very high standard, the breakfasts are wonderful, and Jackie and Jonathan, the owners, could not be more charming and helpful. We have stayed in expensive hotels where the facilities not been as good. If we visit the area again we shall have no hesitation in returning to Beech Farm.
