“Excellent service with wonderful staff, who made us feel welcome and totally at home in a spotless environment”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

We stayed with my elderly mother and arranged a lunch for all our relatives (41) at very short notice to the hotel. All staff and the owners were wonderful and made everyone from 18 months to 85 years of age feel welcome and at home. Our stay was perfect in a modern spotless environment, with a specially adapted room for my mother. Our meals were excellent and the carvery fantastic value. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and everyone who joined us really had a lovely day that will stay in our memories for a very long time. Thank you!

Large, well appointed rooms, good attention to detail and great food made this a very enjoyable stay - highly recommended

I really do object to paying absolutely top dollar for somewhere so average and of such indifferent quality! To start with, the hotel is located on a very busy road and rail line so there is constant traffic noise most of the time. The place was clean enough (apart from two grubby facecloths in a stained pastic shell-shaped bowl on our washstand). The room we had (the Bridal Suite) was decorated competely in pale gold and cream - even had a white telly! In terms of taste, it is probably the best Argos has to offer...and I identified at least two pictures on the wall from the range at Dunelm Mill! The rest of the hotel is decorated in the style of a comfortable care home with faux suede sofas in the lounge and a juke box in the bar. All this in a Victorian house - for shame! On first arriving, we were met by a man whom we presume was the owner although he didn't introduce himself or give us any information about the hotel, times of breakfast, dinner options - simply said, 'You're in room 16 - do you want to see it?' On checking out, we chose to pay with a credit card but the terminals weren't working, provoking much swearing and phone calls to BT from the owner. While this palava was going on, I observed that the owners both has their breakfasts delivered to them by their staff at their desks which they were about to eat in full view of guests checking out! That said it all about the level of professionalism at this place and we were less than impressed with the value. It was worth about ninety pounds a night and we paid twice that. Having stayed at two beautiful places either side of this one, both charging comparable sums, I do believe this assessment to be fair. NB: The hotel has no Visit England rating (for which I understand a payment is charged) and the five diamond AA rating is for 'Guest Accommodation' while this is clearly nothing more than a second rate hotel.

Excellent quality hotel with stylish room (with A/C). Some road and train noise due to close proximity of road and railtrack. Breakfast good, but no continental option so visitors from Europe (and there were a few while we were there) might find it a bit disappointing.

Didn't eat in during the evening so unable to comment on quality. Good selection of places to eat in Wareham and surrounding area. Would stay here again. Recommended.

Hotel is superbly placed for exploring the beautiful surrounding area and local attractions; although we booked only an overnight stay, the location meant we were able to visit Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle, Wareham and Monkey World across the two days we were there.

The room was light, spacious and spotlessly clean; the en-suite bathroom was well supplied with all the essentials.

Breakfast comes highly recommended, the cooked option being among the best I've had. Perfectly cooked and not at all fatty (with many of the choices grilled or sauteed), this made the perfect start to the day!

Throughout our stay all members of staff were polite and welcoming, without being overly intrusive. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

After reading the positive reviews on Tripadvisor we decided to book a room at Kemps Hotel. The room was very spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable but the pillows were quite hard, we did ask for softer pillows and were met with a look of astonishment that no one has ever asked for softer pillows before! The pillows did not get changed. The breakfast was ok but we were not filled with confidence to book an evening meal here.

I was very surprised that no one had mentioned the closeness of the railway line with the trains sounding their horn frequently at the crossing or the fact that MOD vehicles use the road which runs outside the hotel, they were very very noisy. The bathroom was well appointed but the shower drain could not cope with the volume of water and you end up standing in about 3" of water.

There was no depth to the wardrobe which meant that an average coat hanger had to be hung sideways to enable the doors to close, which meant only a few items of clothing could be hung in it without creasing them up, we ended up hanging clothes from the hooks on the bathroom door.

The location of the hotel for touring Dorset is great, but for £120 per night we would not return.

We stayed at Kemps Country House Hotel for 2 nights and were underwhelmed. On arrival we were quickly shown to our room but it was very matter of fact with minimal customer service. The bedroom was large and well appointed but the bathroom despite having a large shower was narrow particularly by the toilet. The breakfast was okay, but based on the breakfast we did not eat dinner there and found 2 excellent local pubs. For £120 a night we were expecting a bit more.

The hotel was well located for visiting the Jurassic Coast but we were a little surprised to find the railway line so close with the trains regularly sounding their horns at the crossing.
