We stayed at Kemps from Monday 6th September to Friday 10th September and were delighted with everything. The room was lovely, very clean, comfortable bed, nice flat screen digital TV and lovely bathroom. We were in the annex and enjoyed that as it felt we had our own little flat but with the benefits of the hotel and the restaurant. We enjoyed our breakfasts and had one evening meal which was very nice. We could not fault anything and the owners and staff were all very pleasant. We would reccomend Kemps and would be only to happy to return for another stay.

We lunched here with 20+ close friends and relatives following our wedding ceremony and have nothing but praise for John and his team of attentive and dedicated staff. Everything was exactly as we hoped for with mouth watering food served piping hot with superb presentation - thank you Chris. We stayed in the champagne suite overnight and again everything had been thought of to make our stay a memorable one. Breakfast did not disappoint and we were so impressed we have booked to go again for Christmas dinner (along with several friends) without a moment's hesitation. See you in December John, unless we get back to you before!

We booked this for our honeymoon, on arrival we were not shown to our room just given the key.
Although spacious, we did not expect it to have two single beds pushed together to create a 'kingsize' bed.......it was quite uncomfortable having the ridge down the middle...........
The other problem was the shower that did not drain away, we reported this and was hopeful that on the second day it had been sorted, not so, we reported it again to be told a bridal party had blocked it by shaving their legs in the shower......not the sort of comment you expect to hear.
Along with crumbs on the tea tray and hairs in the shower , road noise and trains, we decided to continue our honeymoon elsewhere.
We gave the required 24 hour notice and left.

We stayed with my elderly mother and arranged a lunch for all our relatives (41) at very short notice to the hotel. All staff and the owners were wonderful and made everyone from 18 months to 85 years of age feel welcome and at home. Our stay was perfect in a modern spotless environment, with a specially adapted room for my mother. Our meals were excellent and the carvery fantastic value. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and everyone who joined us really had a lovely day that will stay in our memories for a very long time. Thank you!

I really do object to paying absolutely top dollar for somewhere so average and of such indifferent quality! To start with, the hotel is located on a very busy road and rail line so there is constant traffic noise most of the time. The place was clean enough (apart from two grubby facecloths in a stained pastic shell-shaped bowl on our washstand). The room we had (the Bridal Suite) was decorated competely in pale gold and cream - even had a white telly! In terms of taste, it is probably the best Argos has to offer...and I identified at least two pictures on the wall from the range at Dunelm Mill! The rest of the hotel is decorated in the style of a comfortable care home with faux suede sofas in the lounge and a juke box in the bar. All this in a Victorian house - for shame! On first arriving, we were met by a man whom we presume was the owner although he didn't introduce himself or give us any information about the hotel, times of breakfast, dinner options - simply said, 'You're in room 16 - do you want to see it?' On checking out, we chose to pay with a credit card but the terminals weren't working, provoking much swearing and phone calls to BT from the owner. While this palava was going on, I observed that the owners both has their breakfasts delivered to them by their staff at their desks which they were about to eat in full view of guests checking out! That said it all about the level of professionalism at this place and we were less than impressed with the value. It was worth about ninety pounds a night and we paid twice that. Having stayed at two beautiful places either side of this one, both charging comparable sums, I do believe this assessment to be fair. NB: The hotel has no Visit England rating (for which I understand a payment is charged) and the five diamond AA rating is for 'Guest Accommodation' while this is clearly nothing more than a second rate hotel.
