“Raw Pork”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Despite being shown the pub's own text confirming our reservation, they had no record of the booking but did manage to squeeze us in. Lamb was luke warm and the potato served with it cold and solid - inedible. Belly pork was raw in the middle and none of the fat had rendered at all. Potato and vegetables cold and crackling too hard to even be able to break with teeth let alone eat. Staff very attentive and apologetic and to be fair, the management offered free deserts and two other mains ordered by the party were ok, although again vegetables were not warm. dining room was quite dark and packed with too many tables for comfort and overall the food was very over priced for the lack of quality presented. Maybe we just hit a bad night but even so, raw pork is unforgivable.

“Good but expensive”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Had an evening meal here with our son and his wife and the two Grandkids. Essential to book a table as it is very busy especially on sunny summer evenings. It's also good for kids as there is plenty of grassed garden for them to play in.
The is a good selection on the menu. I had garlic bread with cheese and caramelised onion as a starter which was very nice....as was the shoulder of lamb as a main course. We shared the selection of suites platter which is a good idea offering a taste of several different suites.
All in all a good meal although not outstanding but convenient for Emmersons Green where my son lives. If we go again I would be tempted by the rib eye steak which he raves about!
It is expensive though....even with the 25% off card for local restaurants the bill was over £100 for six....two of which were children's burgers so we couldn't afford to be regulars!

“Unimpressed”
Reviewed 1 August 2014 via mobile

Popped in the other evening for drink & to look at the menu. There were approx 6 people in the bar but the dinning area was very husy. The slowest bar service I've ever experienced meant after 10 minutes we still hadn't been served. One very slow member of staff who offered no encouragement to carry on waiting. We walked out particularly underwhelmed.

“Great food”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

We went following a recommendation and weren't disappointed. We were able to sit outside in the garden as it was a lovely warm evening.

For starter we shared a seafood mezze dish (£12.95) which included a beautiful smoked mackerel pate, taramasalata, crab salad, a generous prawn cocktail and fried squid. For the main course I had slow cooked pork belly (£13.95) cooked in a ginger beer glaze with a slice of black pudding which was all melt in the mouth. It came with a small piece of crackling which was the best I have ever had in a restaurant (as good as home made). The mash potato was very good- I suspect they made it with baked potato as it had an intensity of flavour I can't get using boiled potatoes. For a few £s extra there was the option to have this with scallops which I declined.

We ordered the house sharer dessert (£10.50), which had enough tempting puddings to satisfy 4-5 people rather just the two of us!

The staff were friendly and made us, and our particularly our dog, feel very welcome. I look forward to visiting again.

“Just don't bother”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Terrible food from the freezer- the only way they can offer so much choice. Staff too busy to wipe our table but said we could do it ourselves. No atmosphere. Terrible fake decor
