Winterbourne Medieval Barn
Reviewed 21 March 2016

This barn is hidden away from the busy roads and easy to miss.It is before St.Micheal s church and before you turn the corner.IT is open only certain saturdays so not often, but you can see from the road that it is a inpressive building and to the back is a dovecote. It is worth a visit the churchyard and the interesting history on the tomb stones (look out for the board that tells you the sad story of fouracre)and also the views . also a walk to a nature reserve.

I have seen this building as the venue for carol services for christmas - what a great atmosphere to hold such an event. It tends to be open for special events only

Winterbourne Medieval Barn is a fantastic old building which has been cared for by a group of volunteers through a trust (thus saving it from dereliction).

Built during the 100 Years War , the site has much history associated with it.

The Website has good photos and details of the history.

The trustees run regular events to open the barn up and to procure funds for their work - UNFORTUNATELY these events often loose the focus they are advertised to have as a result of the trustees putting other sideshows / activities in place which crowd out what the even is meant to be showcasing (as a recent example the Medieval Fair this weekend was cramped out of one of the main display areas as a result of a whole series of non Medieval Related activities - not entirely appropriate when £5 a head is being charged for admission {plus car parking fees etc}).
