The bar area is bustling with locals on a Saturday night and is very welcoming with the roaring fire. We ate in the restaurant area which was a little quieter. The food was delicious - perfectly cooked steak, hearty game pie and home made chips were an excellent way to fill our bellies. Staff were friendly and the service was good.

Myself and three friends used the hotel for a night's stay. We arrived early evening and there was a friendly greeting as we were shown to our rooms. The bar was already busy and we had booked into the restaurant for a meal. Having freshened up we returned to the bar which was now unfortunately dominated by a group of loud boorish men. At one point a member of our group was knocked by two of these men who were jostling each other without any recognition of their poor behaviour. We adjourned to the restaurant where we all had good meals and enjoyed the atmosphere. After the meal we returned to the bar and at one point were astonished to witness two men grabbing at each other with one issuing profanities and threatening serious harm to the other. There was a group who were being allowed to drink more than they could hold. The room quietened as the men left and we ended our evening. The rooms were well appointed with some nice touches, the owners are clearly trying to improve the accommodation as there were signs of ongoing work. After a very good nights sleep we all met for breakfast which was great. Good value all around with just the boorish behaviour as a blot.

Firstly i would like to say, That Anne and David could not have been more welcoming.
The room we stayed in for my Birthday for 3 days was great, comfy bed, Nespresso machine, flat screen tv, warm and quite so a good nights sleep was had.
The breakfast was fit for a king and so attentively delivered we felt deeply spoilt, and beautifully tasty too, more options than you could ever want. i wouldn't normally eat dinner every night in the same place for 3 nights, but we did and it was great.
Friendly staff in all ways, and lovely locals in the bar etc, all made for a great stay.
The only issue if you wanted to be really picky was the shower, a bit weak to say the least,But that wouldn't stop me staying again in any way really.
Thanks Anne and david

We had had a meal the evening before in another Bellingham establishment and almost didn't stay when we went into the Cheviot bar. There was 70s rock music playing quite loudly and the carpet was horrible!! Not a good first impression. However we looked at the menu and decided to eat there. We could have moved into the restaurant, but once seated near the window we were quite comfortable and there was a friendly atmosphere, so we stayed in the bar.
There were 4 in our group. My wife and I had the Rump Steak, this can be a risk (I think my worst ever pub meal was a badly cooked and served rump steak), but in this case the meat was really tasty and very tender; definitely a quality cut. Our friends had the belly pork and lamb and these were also of great quality and really well presented. Puddings also were home made and very tasty. Service too was extremely friendly. We really liked the beer, a good choice.
Interestingly, our bill for four was exactly 10p cheaper than the previous evening and we had had more drinks.

Although there are three pubs in the small village of Bellingham, having visited the Cheviot we didn't bother with the other two. Bellingham is a very friendly village, where everyone speaks to you and this is reflected in the Cheviot. Warm and welcoming with four well kept real ales and a cider on handpump. Dogs are welcomed.

Stayed for one night as part of a 6 day charity walk. This was our first night of the walk and as a party of 6 we were clearly filled with nerves and anticipation over dinner. The hotel dinner was delicious (have the steak) couldn't fault it or the hospitality of the staff. They were very accomodating and helpful even to our slightly different requirements.
The rooms were lovely, I can vouch for all of them as our party filled the hotel. Very big comfy beds and a cute little sheep teddybear in each room.
Breakfast was wonderful - huge amount of variety and plenty to eat - just what you need before setting off to walk 25 miles!
Thank you Cheviot Hotel!

Where to stop in the wilds of Northumberland on a tour of UK in high season when there are six of you? That was a problem in booking, but the Cheviot Hotel, taken on a chance, proved to be a great place. The hotel is really a large pub, set in the small village of Bellingham. The welcome was genuine and warm. Our bags were carried up the steep stairs and the rooms were small but beautifully and personally put together - the added touch of a cuddly lamb on the bed was great as were the flowers! The bathroom was a bit old but put down to character. The choice of beers were some of the best we saw on our tour, traditional and tasting great. Dinner for six was extremely good and above all normal pub standards, as our compliments to the young chef suggested. The village is picturesque and it is worth finding and walking the paths along the river running through the village.

I keep until last that we enjoyed the best English breakfast I have ever had at the advanced age of 63, my Japanese, American and Vietnamese friends thought so too. Unbelievably good. My compliments to the management and staff for a truly great overnight stay for the 6 of us.
