After four visits to the brilliant Mango Bay Hotel in Holetown we discovered Gibbs Bay during a very long walk to Speightestown. As a very keen sea swimmer it has to be amongst the best small bays on the West Coat and completely uncommercialised. I searched the internet for places to stay in the area and luckily came across the Ashanti complex and Number 3 in particular. It is a tall but attractive new building with nine flats of various sizes.
The flats are situated in a very pleasant quiet area and are an easy ten minutes walk from Gibbs Bay beach and apart from crossing the coastal road it is an attractive walk past upmarket privately owned dwellings.
The actual building is very well laid out and highly secure. There is a large gated car park and whilst the final thirty feet leading up to the entrance is steep anyone who is disabled can in fact drive to the rear of the development where there is a level entrance .
Number 3 Ashanti is on the first floor and has a large well fitted lounge with satellite TV - free Wi-Fi-Free and local telephone. To the rear of the lounge is a very well equipped kitchen area with a large American style fridge. Also off the lounge is a small fully equipped laundry room.
To the rear are 3 excellent bedrooms all with good sized en suite bathrooms and all with excellent fitted wardrobe areas. The master bedroom is larger and has a separate access to the balcony.
The property is completely private and we slept soundly each night.
On the other side off the development is a moderate size pool with plenty of chairs around.
The property is in a very quiet residential area. If you have a car then you can go wherever you want to eat and shop etc and come back to a secure car park. If you don't have a car (and we did not want one)-you must realise that there are no shops or restaurants in the area. To go shopping or to a restaurant you need to walk ten minutes to the bus stop and go to Holetown or Speightestown . We never found this a problem and used the very cheap bus service to go into Holetown every other evening to eat out.
Our main enjoyment was to walk the quiet beaches and swim in the sea and explore the Island by bus. Despite my wife being a dedicated hotel goer -we so enjoyed our holiday that we have already booked for 2013.
