So after 5 days in Matera, here we are in Bernalda, a nice small town in Basilicata. There are plenty of trattorias, mostly quite good, but Trattoria La Locandiera is no ordinary trattoria. It's a family-run restaurant specializing in the local cuisine that is as good or better than any restaurant that we've enjoyed in Rome or Paris or New York (at much more reasonable prices, of course). In particular, the antipasti, while showcasing traditional and local ingredients, is inventive and unique in both presentation and flavor. The primi piatti were all delicious, the secondi outstanding. We had a nice local wine. The service is excellent. Mostly, you can feel the passion that this family has for the food that they prepare. Really. Just go.
