“Lovely villa”

The villa is really lovely, new and well equipped and the owners are very welcoming. They even provided us with self-made jam and honey.
Why lot the full points?
This is perhaps personal, but the beds are very hard and we found sleeping difficult. The bathrooms are tiny. When taking a shower you flood the toilet.

Also, it is difficult to find the villa. Therefore, you need to meet the owners at a meeting point at an agreed time. Even if you can choose the timing yourself, I do not like to commit beforehand on a specific timing, since I do not know how long I would like to spend travelling on the day. If you do not know the area well it is just so difficult to predict.
The distance to the beach is short, but I would have liked the village to be a bit closer by.

Wonderful place to stay. In the middle of an olive grove and down a small road, the cottage is an inviting place.
Two couples stayed here for a week. We could be very private from one another. Nothing has been left out by the owner. So thoughtfully put together for comfort, fun and pleasure.
The village is beautiful, so much to offer for a holiday - visually beautiful, lovely people, a swimming beach, bars, food, food, food.
Unless you wish to stay put in the village a car is essential.
The owners were extremely obliging. Communication excellent.
I highly recommend both this accommodation and the village.

“Well equipped,clean,quiet location.”
Reviewed 16 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We were very impressed with Villa. Upon our arrival we were met by the owner and Andreas who explained various things about it and how to operate the appliances.
We thought a good idea would be to provide in future some form of laminated sheet that contained all the necessary information about operating the the appliances and giving details on the location of restaurants, cafes and other amenities in the area such as supermarkets , rubbish disposal etc. it would have saved time having to phone the owners daughter who was most helpful.
Only downside the disposal of toilet paper. Not ideal!
All in all a great holiday and a villa we would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

Dear Colin,
Thank you very much for your nice and very useful review! I am very glad you were impressed by Sophia&Daphne! We have preferred the personal communication to an impersonal sheet explaining how the appliances work since sometimes we cannot predict our guests' questions or their preferences regarding restaurants, beaches etc. Like your question with the toilet paper since what is common use in Greece is the opposite to USA or UK for example. Thank you very much for choosing Sophia&Daphne and we would love to welcome you again. Best Regards
Villy

“A gem of a find”

We loved the accommodation. There were four of us in our party, my husband and two friends. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. Everything was new and the cleaner came twice to change the bedding and towels. We loved the position, not far from the beach and sea and the 20 minute walk along the water's edge into Agios Nikolaos gave us an appetite and waling back settled us before our night cap. We entured into the themountain villages and took an all day trip to Olympia which was so interesting and quite moving. We will certainly go back to this villa and to the area. Also, we felt September was the perfect time to be in Greece. we also found a very small taverna in Agios Dimitrios which was open on Friday evenings for food and we visited this place twice. Turn left at the beach and keep walking until you get to the village.. If there was a downside, then we would have liked to have had some sunbeds, either on the roof or in the garden under the shade of the olive trees..

“Fabulous house in a superb location”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The villa is absolutely superb: quiet, clean, comfortable, elegantly designed and very well equipped. Every detail of our stay was thought about by the delightful owner, from the provision of fresh laundry twice a week to the plentiful supply of upmarket toiletries. The villa is spacious, with excellent furniture inside and out. Every morning we had breakfast in the garden under the shade of an olive tree. The beach is no more than five minutes away on foot. The beach right next to the nearest taverna was never crowded (amazing for late July), and the loungers are all provided free of charge. To walk into the centre of Agios Nikolaos takes about 15 minutes, and makes for a lovely evening stroll for a drink or dinner – or both! The village has about three mini supermarkets (two larger ones are on the main road near Stoupa).

Not to be missed are the inland hill villages, with their narrow lanes and frescoed churches. Our favourite was Milea. Don't overlook the lower part of the village, called Kato Hora, which has two exceptional churches. There is a wonderful walk from Milea to the top of the mountain ridge, where, from the precariously sited monastery on the summit there are views over both sides of the Mani peninsula. Other nearby villages worth exploring are Exohori (one of the favourite places of novelist Bruce Chatwin, whose ashes were buried there in 1989), Kastania (lots of well-signed churches and a simple taverna), Proastio (the church of Agia Triada has very fine frescoes from 1745, and is set in a beautiful little garden), Platsa and Saidona (where there is a taverna halfway down a flight of stone steps, where lunch is served on a balcony terrace with stunning views over the countryside to the sea). Just to the south of Agios Nikolaos, on the main road towards Areopolis, is the village of Thalames. At the taverna of O Platanos in the village square they have live music every Wednesday evening, which is attended by all generations from the village and beyond. It makes for a very entertaining evening.

We were very sad to leave Villa Sophia & Daphne and long to return. We cannot recommend the house more strongly. It was such a joy to be there, and was the perfect base for a stimulating and relaxing holiday.

“A peaceful and relaxing vacation in Mani”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 for a stay in August 2013

While trying to find the destination for our summer vacations we decided to take the safe side. Return to Greece, return to Peloponnesos! This wonderful part of Greece with its mild climate, lush vegetation, interesting architecture, tasty food and great sunbathing opportunities. We have been on vacation to Peloponnesos a couple of times before, and we are really amazed by everything this area of Greece has to offer, why it was not a difficult decision to go there again and stay more than 10 days that we did last year.
Previous times, we have stayed in different hotels and guesthouses, which is a perfect alternative if you want to be able to go around with your car to see different places and areas. Last year though we stayed in this newly built cottage within a stones throw from the beautiful village of Kardamyli: “Sofia and Daphne”. We found Sophia and Daphne through Tripadvisor villas and decided to give it a try although it was new and did not have so many reviews. We went there by car, and it takes you approximately 3 hours to drive from Athens. A practical alternative is to book a flight to Kalamata and rent a car from there. The booking procedure was very smooth, and we easily got in contact with the owners/couple who let their house for rent. The procedure was equally smooth this year and together with the excitement of summer holidays led me to write this review. We clearly remember that last summer upon arrival we where greeted by the glad and cheerful manageress of the cottage and her father. As this business is family driven we had the opportunity to experience greek hospitality in a discreet and genuine way.The cottage is a stone-built private house in the traditional style of Mani area. It is located some close distance of the main road and is reached it through a narrow gravel road. The location is beautiful amidst olive groves and is very quite. The overall experience of the stay was excellent. The cottage is brand new, very clean and tidy. The planning of the house is smart as all the bedrooms have separate entrances and private bathrooms and much detail is focused in elegant design and functionality. There is airconditioning all through the cottage and excellent amenities including washing machine and dishwasher. The allocation of space is excellent and the privacy that is achieved from the planning makes it a great opportunity for some private moments wether one is travelling together with other couples (as we did) or with the family. My fiancé loved and found very inspirational the nice terrace where he occasionally sat and worked. What I loved apart from the serene atmosphere was the location near but not on the beach and the warmness of the owners and the locals as well. It was a fantastic surprise when the manageress, Villy, provided local fresh products such as olive oil, olives and jam. The walk down to the sea takes about 5 minutes. You arrive a nice little beach, not too crowded, calm with pleasant clear water. This is very convenient since I love to walk up early and take a refreshing swim, before others reach the beach.
Some minutes ride with the car or approximately a 15 min walk there is the picturesque and not so known as Kardamyli but equally interesting little village of Agios Nikolaos where you can get local groceries or other supplies. It’s a great place to take a coffee in the morning or a quite dinner in the sunset. In the area one can find plenty of trekking paths and places of interest like archeological sites etc that we are looking forward to explore this year when we are staying longer.Me and my fiancé are really looking forward for our vacation this summer in Mani and the peacefulness of Sophia and Daphne Cottage.

The house is large, extremely clean, and well air-conditioned . It is located in a very peaceful area and next to the sea. The living room is light and bright with high ceiling. The bedrooms are also very spacious. There is an amazing terrace with great view. We absolutely loved hanging out on the veranda and admiring the view every morning at breakfast. This is actually the place where you would like to spend time. Moreover, the kitchen includes all the facilities that you could ask for, if you are interested to cook. Also, the house provides internet connection.
Clean, pretty and relaxing, l highly recommend it.
