This was one of the best places we stayed during our entire trip! Great place, clean, perfect home away from home. Sinead was an amazing cook and teacher and the food was fantastic!

“Wonderful getaway in Normandy with a bonus!”

We wanted to take a cooking class during our trip through Brittany and Normandy and discovered Wilde Kitchen through a web search.

The cooking school is on the grounds of La Blonderie. La Blonderie is a property located in the tiny village of Benoistville in the upper Normandy Cotentin peninsula just south of Cherbourg. In fact, the owner, Sinead Wilde Allart, had to give us GPS coordinates to plug into our GPS so we could find it. There are no street addresses in rural France.
The B+B includes several small apartments for both independent living and sightseeing in the area or for staying while at Sinead's cooking school.

Sinead Wilde Allart is a trained chef who moved to France about 20 years ago, married her husband Philippe, a veterinarian, had two delightful daughters, and began Wilde Kitchen about ten years ago for small groups (up to six people max in any one class).

We were the only "students" in residence the three days we were there and it became as if we were living with and enjoying time with a French family while learning about the food and culture of the Normandy region. How good does it get!!

Sinead had us making pastry, braising vegetables, at the market buying for dinner, at a medieval oven to bake our bread (yes, a wood-fired stone oven that was hundreds of years old) and cooking our dinner one evening.

Our accommodations were in a restored and converted barn. Sounds rustic?? Not at all. The apartment consisted of a main kitchen/sitting area, a bedroom with a large double bed, a bathroom with all facilities, including tub/shower. Every morning Sinead would come in with a big basket of goodies - croissants, French bread baguette, homemade jams, coffee, fruit. She also made arrangements for two dinners in local restaurants for us as part of our package.

The cooking school, accommodations, restaurant meals, market shopping, etc. are all included. It is not inexpensive, but the food, family, and education are certainly worth it.
Driving around the region was also fun and very educational regarding the French rural road system – just make sure you have a good GPS with an up-to-date France chip in it!

It was a terrific three-day break from our month-long sojourn to various tourist destinations in France and we very highly recommend it for something unusual and educational.

“Truly Magical Time”

We are going to look back on these six days fondly for many many years. We came to celebrate one of those "landmark" birthdays with cooking classes in France and had no idea that the cooking would only be the tip of the iceberg of fun. We cooked on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and then toured on our own on Tuesday and Thursday.
Sinead is a very knowledgeable cook and makes everyone successful. These classes aren't just about learning some new recipes or polishing your knife skills. We have learned so much more about the connections between food and culture. The trips to the local markets were highlights, since going with a local allows you to feel more comfortable asking questions and trying new things.
The lodging was perfect for us. We even had a little fridge to store our cheeses and other market finds. Sinead and her family we so welcoming and warm. We can't recommend the experience highly enough!

“We had a wonderful time.”
Reviewed 24 September 2012 for a stay in July 2012

My wife and I stayed in one guestroom and my daughter in the other (for four nights). We had cooking lessons for two days and used the B & B as a base for exploring Juno beach and Bayeaux. Sinead and her family are very friendly and lots of fun. The rooms are not fancy but are lovely and clean. I highly recommend the cooking lessons. They are fun and she takes you to see rural Normandy.
