We ate at the Cliff House yesterday, going to their 'Fish and Fizz' evening.
This is a lovely small local hotel with spectacular sea views, a very pretty and welcoming atmosphere and good food.
My husband had the local fish(battered) served with chips and peas, he said the fish was delightful and very fresh but slightly disappointed with the chips- just lacking in a bit of flavour.
I had the Moroccan couscous with fillet of hake- and it was absolutely delicious, I really couldn't fault it- very fresh fish, perfectly cooked with slightly spicy fragrant couscous
We had a glass of very pleasant pink fizz with the meal.
The staff were particularly friendly and smiley - especially as they were very busy with some large groups at other tables.
Wouldn't hesitate to go again, good value and would recommend.

Just returned from another short break at this gem of a hotel and once again we had a wonderful time. The rooms are quite small but the views across to the Isle of Wight are stunning. The food is excellent – very creative and lovely fresh ingredients. The duo of lamb was superb. The service is friendly and the hosts (Kerry, Donald and Donna) good company. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a great base for anyone planning a break in the New Forest. We will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

This was the second time that my husband and I visited this charming hotel. The owners and staff are so very friendly and helpful. We had the Plymouth room which looked out directly over the large solent bay. You can even lay in bed and watch the waves! Very good English breakfast and a lovely restaurant for evening or lunchtime meals. We ate there on Saturday the 6th of April and it was a superb meal. Must say our room had a double bed, we are used to a super king so it was very cosy! Not a big room at all but adequate for our needs. However there is a snug lounge and if the weather is good sit outside and enjoy the super views.

Room Tip: Try to go for the Plymouth or the Portland rooms as these have the great views.

We have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions and the standard of food is superb.
We had fillet steak with HOMEMADE CHIPS !! which you do not get very often elsewhere.
I cannot praise the staff enough they have always been very polite and serve you in a very professional manner.
The view from the restaurant is outstanding.
What a lovely relaxing, unwinding evening we had, cant wait for our next visit!

Wednesday night and we're back in London - but still thinking about our relaxing and refreshing weekend. The Cliff House has an unbeatable location - can't think of a better place to have breakfast than the sun lounge with its great views of the IOW and Hengistbury Head. The hotel is a great base for exploring Bournemouth and Christchurch - it took us 25 mins by car to the Lower Pleasure Gardens ("lower pleasures"?) and to see Harry Hill at Bournemouth Pavilion; and 15 mins to Hengistbury Head where we had a lovely walk. Over several years - and having tried both - we've found it much better to stay in Barton, away from the hustle and bustle, than in an impersonal hotel on Bournemouth's East Cliff with buildings all around and a road between you and the sea. Since the present owners took over, the Cliff House has been steadily raising its standards - most notably in the restaurant, which must be heading for a rosette of some kind. We were out on Saturday evening but booked ourselves in for Sunday lunch, which was truly exceptional - would recommend the cheese souffle starter and the roast pork. Horse / New Forest pony definitely NOT on the menu... Thank you, Donald and Kerry. We'll be back. I & H

Room Tip: Our favourite rooms are Plymouth and Dover

my wife and i walked into the restaurant almost despite ourselves, but were so pleased. the mushroom and chicken pie had the best - i repeat - the best pastry in a pie i have ever tasted. we had dined at the 2 michelin star Sketch just three nights earlier, and its not any exaggeration to say that the chef did wonders with that pie that would not have been out of place up in Conduit St London.

Friendly staff and a really lovely owner make the experience extremely warm. The building itself is, unfortunately, tired and a little industrial from the outside, but dont let that fool you. This is a hidden gem.

We stayed for one night having just arrived from Australia. Donald and Kerry were very welcoming and sensitive to our jet lag!
Harry the brilliant young chef provided us with a dinner worthy of a michelin star ... we could not fault the food or service. We particularly liked the way in which all the ingredients had been sourced locally and the freshness shone through. Highlights were the crab souffle and the filet steak !
We stayed in 'Wight' with views across Christchurch Bay straight on to the Needles at the end of the Isle of Wight. Everything was laid out immaculately and we enjoyed the fine detail and appreciated the thoughtful way everything had been arranged. Amazingly we had a normal night of sleep ... which surprised us both after a 30 hour journey from Australia and mirrored time zones.
We left after a leisurely and delicious breakfast of porridge and kippers ... wishing we could have stayed longer.
We have already booked in for 2013 ... once the secret of the Jewel of Christcurch Bay gets out we imagine it will be hard to get a room.

Room Tip: The corner room we stayed in was great ... small but perfectly formed. Breathtaking 180d views on t...
