We thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to La Vieille Forge. It is not a restaurant that you would just come across as it is located in a very small village but well worth finding. We went with friends who live locally, on their recommendation. It only holds 16 people and is run by a husband and wife team with the husband as chef and his wife as waitress and front of house. It is in a delightful setting with works of art by different artists. The menu is a set price of €29 for three courses (two choices), a set cheese course as well as amuse-bouche / amuse-gueule - excellent value for money for food of such a high quality and with truly wonderful presentation! We can highly recommend this restaurant! It truly is a hidden gem but one that is well worth finding!

We have been to this restaurant a few times now as we live in the area....It is always a wonderful treat to eat here, and is nice as an intimate dinner for two, or for a larger group. As it is a little out of the way, it is a good idea to book at least one day in advance. There are I believe 2 set menus which change every three months or so, using mostly local seasonal vegetables and meats etc.....We were greeted by the lovely and gracious wife of the chef, and each plate was a delight-both esthetically pleasing and of course gastronomically!!! Also, the prices are reasonable--especially so for the quality of the food and cooking!

Even by the high gastronomic standards of the area, this place stands out. The menu manages an almost impossible synthesis of Mediterranean and Périgourdin cuisine. The choices are simple (two starters, two mains, two desserts and a cheese course all intertwined with various amuse-gueules), the presentation seductive and the taste transcendent. The wine list is amazing, too. The chef and his wife make you feel like family. Not to be missed.

We were staying in St crepin d'auberoche and wanted somewhere local and special to take the kids for a treat. We found this place as a result of using trip advisor, Its certainly not advertised anywhere else that I could see locally. What a fantastic place. You need to book in advance at least a day, The layout inside means you have lots of space around the tables, they could easily put double the amount of tables in but clearly the eating experiance is paramount. It appears to be just the chef and the front of house that run the place, and she does a fantastic job, she was happy to allow the children to share their meals so they could order adult menu,s. The food over six courses was fantastic, really nicely presented and tasted excellent, some real unusual flavours. There is wine from 15e up to 100e whatever takes your fancy. The food was around 20e a head which we considered fantastic value.

Visited with friends, having eaten here 2 years ago. Quiet, off the beaten track, not much choice but beautifully executed. With great company, made the meal even better.
