Stayed in the Arkwright Suite which was lovely. Large bedroom with huge en suite bathroom. Roll top bath with hand held shower (no seperate shower.) Lovely views of the gardens and the hotel was in a great location. The hotel was let down by the standard of it's food. The breakfast was very poor, soggy toast, tinned fruit and a greasy cooked buffet breakfast which had been standing for ages as the eggs were like rubber. If the food improves the hotel would be above average.

The reason I don't give this hotel an excellent is also what adds to its charm. The service is good but absent minded. You are asked what you would like to drink then given a wine list. You may be seated at your table then have to go hunting for a menu. We got back to the hotel, ready for another one of their excellent dinners only to be told no dinner was being served that evening. This required a panic trip into Matlock for fish and chips. No dinner that night, fine, but it would have been good to know in advance.
The good bits about this place are the friendly staff, the great food and the quiet location, just off the A6 in Cromford. It is clean, our room was a good size and the bed comfortable. We stayed three nights in a deluxe room and would definitely stay there again.

Not much publicity about this place, so obviously was a little wary of staying here. Booked the deluxe suite and was not disappointed. The room was huge! (and I have just been on a trip to America - and the rooms weren't even this big!). It was clean, tastefully refurbished and the atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming. Breakfast was great (full english!). In a nice secluded private spot with a quick walk into Cromford village. Would definately reccomend this hotel. Very reasonable rates.
