Have just return from a wonderful evening at The Dog. Haven't eaten here for a couple of years when, frankly, it was indifferent. Tonight, so different! From wonderful food to fabulous service. & we loved the jazz to be faintly heard in the background. Lovely not to have conversation drowned out by another person's choice of "music"! The staff hit just the right spot. They were warm & welcoming & it was great to have people know what the menu was about - to know what part of the animal the piece of meat was from & to be able to talk about each of the beers served. The food was fabulous, the smoked salmon wasn't paper thin so you felt that you were actually eating something & the shoulder of beef I had was really tender. It was followed by a lemon posset that was as sharp as you like & a wonderful way to finish a meal. The British Larder, please look to your laurels. These guys are much better!
