We have just returned from having a lovely meal at The Dog. It has been many years since we last visited as we don’t live locally to it but many of our friends speak highly of the food and atmosphere that we thought we would travel a little further and give it a try. We are really glad that we did. The staff are friendly and helpful, the garden is lovely and the food was fresh with lots of vegetarian choice. The stuffed potato dumplings are definitely worth returning for! Such a welcoming little place..it almost makes me want to move to the village and become a regular. This has absolutely nothing to do with their selection of gin...of course!

I honestly can't say enough good things about this lovely pub...the owners and staff take pride in everything they do and really make the effort to make you feel like part of the family. The food is fabulous with good vegan options and the freshly made wood fired pizzas are the best we've ever had (and we've had a lot of pizzas!). They also have a great selection of gin and are full of knowledge to make sure you find the best one to meet your tastes. Sitting on the green, The Dog is the heart and soul and of the beautifully picturesque Grundisburg - we can't wait for our next visit!!

The Dog promotes itself as a Gastro Style Pub with an 'Award Winning Chef and Team'.
We arrived as a party of 6 at 6.30pm on 23/06/18. We had booked a table for dinner well in advance. Upon arrival it was clear the 'Dog' was very busy with the gardens full of families having fun in the mid summer sunshine. A 'Duck Race' was being held in the village which presumably was a long standing and pre planned local event so the 'Dog' was doing a good level of trade and could have planned for it.
We arrived on time and our table was ready. We got some drinks and were asked to sit and our orders would be taken shortly. We sat down at 6.45pm. Menus were on the table and we were IMMEDIATELY asked if we were ready to order which, clearly, we were not and we asked for a few minutes to decide.
Despite asking for our orders to be taken they were eventually taken at about 7.15 when we were told the soup starter had sold out at lunchtime. 30 mins later another visit to our table informed us that the
'cod cheeks' starter, which 2 of our group had ordered, were sold out. A further 30 minutes later another visit informed us that the Ham hock starter , which 1 of our group had ordered was sold out.
After asking for our meal to be served several times we eventually were served 4 portions of 'Tandoori Tiger Prawns' and 2 portions of 'Char grilled asparagus and duck egg' as starters.
The 8 'tiger prawns' served to me were cold, or at best tepid, and each of them would have sat comforably on a 2 pence piece with no overhang. Not my expectation of tiger prawns. They were also so overcooked that the material within the tandoori coating could only be described as a hard husk with no prawn meat left in it. 2 of the others with the same dish had the same experience.
The 2 Asparagus dishes we also tepid and the asparagus seemed to have been boiled until it was limp and then put on a hot grill to give a chargrilled appearance. The duck egg yolks on this starter were the consistency of water.
We returned all six starters un-eaten and asked for the main courses.
The only good point in the main course was that the fish was freshly grilled and still moist. The vegetables were boiled/cooked to extinction. My meal was swimming in oil and the potatoes were not saute'ed as described, but boiled, they had never visited a frying pan.
We were then asked if we would like desert and/or coffees. We declined and asked for the bill..
The reasons given among the many apologies were that they had been busy and people had ordered more than expected. It would have been better if the 'Dog' had been prepared for the expected level of buisiness and not let customers suffer the consequences of the resulting poor service.
We were given a discount on our drinks bill and not charged for the un-eaten starters.
In terms of service at 'front of house' the only ray of sunshine was Amy who dealt with a very bad situation with politeness and good grace throughout.
Our group of 6 friends eat together about 4 times a year in local Suffolk and Essex pubs and restaurants spending collectively about £1500 annually.
This was our 1st visit to The Dog and only one of our number said he might return to see if it was as bad next time... which he doubted.
We all agreed it could not be as bad!

So me my partner and his mum came for a meal tonight. Lovely place inside and the beer garden was beautiful. We ordered steak and burgers, the food was great. However we had a young girl and boy serving our food... the girl seemed like she was distracted, we had to ask her 3 times for cutlery while our food was getting cold. The boy coughed all over our food and to top it off when we came to pay, we gave him £60 when the bill was £50 and he said is the change for us, assuming we were giving him a tip. He then said ‘how much change did you want’ !! All the restaurants I have ever been to I have never been treated like this. He showed a general disregard for a basic standard of social etiquette and politeness which quite frankly ruined our evening. All three of us left in shock. We won’t be back unfortunately. The food was good but the staff were awful!

I have not visited the dog in a long time. We went for a spot of lunch. Bit shocked it was basically roast or a burger. It’s 26 degrees? I ordered a starter as main and it was good.
Main things are no loo paper in the girls toilets, the high chair was broken and lack of choice. No cutlery offered so had to go inside and clear a table to get what we needed.
The location and building are great just not great food choice. They need to add a simple salad it’s got to be more profitable an a roast?
I am not one to moan and left a decent tip.
