Just come back from a lovely week here. The weather wasn't great but the cottage is perfect and in a great location for whatever you want to do in the Peak District. We had hoped to do some moorland walking but it was too misty most of the time. Instead we did some low level walking and several cycling routes, visited Chatsworth and of course explored the famous "plague village" of Eyam and went to its very good museum. There's a great cafe in the village that does fab cakes too, and a nice pub. Shops are a bit basic but Calver up the road has a very good Spar. The cottage has everything you might need, it was a bit cold so we were glad of the open fire.
A great cottage, in a great location and at a great price - what else do you need to know! We'll be going back as soon as possible.
After a gruelling 6 hour schlep up the M1, what a joy to arrive at this charming cottage, fairy lights twinkling in the ivy on the garden wall, a Christmas tree in the sitting room, fires laid in the two open fireplaces, homemade Christmas cake and a beautiful jug of holly and winter flowers on the farmhouse kitchen table. This cottage is a delight, the kitchen is well equipped, the beds very comfortable, and much care is taken to make it a lovely experience for visitors. Don’t forget to take towels! They are not provided and although this is made clear, I did forget - luckily my sister in law in Sheffield came to the rescue. Also, although the kitchen is fully equipped, you need to bring th basics (black pepper, olive oil etc - things that you often find in rental kitchens). The village is lovely and we would recommend the museum and the walk up to Bretton to the Barrel Inn. We were very lucky to get snow!
We stayed for the weekend and found the cottage really cosy, lovely to have real fires and a great location for walks and mid way between Castleton and Bakewell. The kitchen was well equipped, only thing missing which would've been handy to know was salt & pepper. Comfy beds and the place was really clean, would love to come back.
Really Charming cottage.
In a great place with Derbyshire totally accessible.
Jo is a lovely lady who has thought of everything.
