“Another blissful break at Cliff Cottage”

My girlfriend and I have the travel bug, and it's rare for us to return to a place, and even rarer to go for the same accommodation. This time though, we had such fond memories of our stay last year we thought it would be hard to beat. We were right.

It's difficult for me to add anything to my last review, as everything is still as good as it was before - so instead, I'll just reiterate what makes this little cottage such a great find.

It's a real character cottage - built from stone, inglenook fireplace, beams (but still very warm) - and yet it has been modernised in a tasteful way. An excellent kitchen, decent wifi, and a new bathroom with the best power shower I think I've ever used. The location is wonderful. Far from the beaten track, with a sea view from every window. The little cove at Portholland is literally a stone's throw away. It's a secluded and peaceful retreat ideal for a couple or small family, and the rental cost is very reasonable.

The area is wonderful, and despite having been in the same place just a year ago we found plenty of new things to see and do a short drive away. Heligan, Eden, Portscatho, St Mawes, Fowey and more.

The owners have been helpful and prompt for both bookings and the checking-in process is very straightforward.

Honestly, I couldn't recommend this cottage more highly and it deserves to be full year round. It's looking like it may become our yearly January pilgrimage!

“Wonderful retreat, a piece of Cornish heaven!”
Reviewed 3 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We stayed here for a weekend as a quick winter break, and we were so pleased we did!

It's an absolutely enchanting little place. It's a very cosy old stone cottage, with simple modernisations to include a decent kitchen (with dishwasher), a handy utilities room (with washing machine and freezer), and a small but good quality bathroom - the shower was brilliant.

With a lovely woodburner in its inglenook, the downstairs living area was very cosy and conveniently equipped with a flatscreen TV, DVD player and good wifi for wet evenings. Pretty much our only criticism of the entire experience was a lack of lamps in the living area, which would've made it a bit more ambient - but the fact that this was our only issue shows you the quality of the place. The upstairs bedrooms were modest in size but comfortable and clean, and boasting fantastic sea-views.

It's part of a very small hamlet with no real facilities, but the tiny beach is 50 yards away at the most, and there are handy conveniences just a short drive away. We loved the seclusion - a bit of peace and quiet that is hard to find elsewhere.

If you want to be in the heart of the action, or in a bustling town centre, this won't be for you. There's no mobile reception or any pub to walk to, and as the description says you really need a car. However, we wanted to get away from it all, and honestly we couldn't have done any better. It's such a lovely cottage in a remarkable position with the sea stretching out for miles. Bliss! It was also excellent value for money, and the owner was helpful and prompt in dealing with our late booking.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely, whole-heartedly. We both decided we'd be back later in the year. Book now! You won't be disappointed.

Thank you for your kind review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. There is a lamp tucked away in the old clome oven next to the woodburner and the Ship Inn in Portloe is around 1 1/2 hours walk on the coast path, but maybe a taxi ride home!

“Beautiful location, cosy and comfortable cottage.”
Reviewed 15 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

My partner and I booked 1 Cliff Cottage for a long weekend in March to celebrate his mothers 70th Birthday. Booking was quick and easy, with clear and friendly communication directly from the owners. The cottage was perfect for us (3 adults) and would also work well for a family of 4 or 5 with children, it is well furnished, well equipped and very comfortable. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to have the door and windows open during the day, and were able to listen to the the sound of the sea just meters away. The views are amazing, we thought it would be ideal what ever the weather, watching the winter sea from the warmth of the hearth of the inglenook fireplace was have been as wonderful experience as our first taste of spring. Being located directly on the south west coastal path was ideal for us, there is an easy and accessible walk to East Port Holland which is ideal for older people who might find the more ragged stretches of the path challenging. We visited the Eden project one day which is an easy 25 minute drive away and visited The Ship Inn in Portloe for dinner which was very enjoyable. We would highly recommend Cliff Cottage and hope to return for a longer stay. Thank you!
