“Delightful B and B”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

We can thoroughly recommend this B and B in this charming old Somerset home where you feel like a house guest rather than a paying customer. The rooms are delightful, the bed was very comfortable, the surroundings quiet and we slept like logs and woke to a delicious breakfast served in a lovely dining room/sitting room with a beautiful log stove . We shall definitely book again when we are in the area.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked nice and the house is in a peaceful position.

Arrival was a bit daunting as there was nobody in, despite us emailing a couple of days before with our arrival time! (No doorbell on house, or phone number to call!) Waited 15 minutes and the owner drove up and welcomed us. Lovely huge room - perfect for mum, dad and twin 12 year olds. Everything we needed plus a bottle of wine and toiletries etc! Key given to front door, so we were completely independent - went to cinema in Yeovil ... perfect night's sleep, then up for delicious locally sourced produce for full English breakfast. We later realised all rooms were occupied but it was so quiet we never heard any of our neighbours, even though they all had young children! Our boys watch 'Four in a Bed' (TV programme about B&Bs) and we thought we'd give them a taste of what staying in a B&B was like... they did all the scoring and gave the Farm 10/10 for everything!

Stayed one night at Toomer Farm and it was lovely. I was with a friend and we had a lovely room, overlooking the stables. The beds were really comfy and there were lots of nice little touches, such as toiletries and nice sachets of cappuccino (just a shame the cups weren't bigger). The breakfast was fabulous with really lovely bacon (I don't usually eat bacon, but this was delicious). Very friendly staff and a beautiful house with very well-kept gardens. Such a peaceful setting as well, which makes it a great place to get away from it all.

Room Tip: The room above the dining room overlooks the stables and gets the late afternoon sun.

We would rate this place as good if we could, but chose average and we can not rate it as very good.

The main reason why we didn't rate it as very good is because of all the dead bugs about the room and bathroom. When we got there there was a dead bug on the edge of the bath, on the window ledge, in cobwebs and various other places about the room.

Now although there is an over indulgence with wood chip wallpaper, we can deal with this, and salmon coloured carpets, its the carpet in the bathroom that I felt was a big no no. The bathroom was also very small.

The mattress on the bed we slept in was a spring mattress and offered very little in the way of comfort for me anyway, my girlfriend didn't find it a problem.

The towels do need replacing (pink towels) as they are old and not what you would expect for £80 a night.

The house sits way back from the road (the A30) and very little road noise can be heard. The house is beautiful in itself.

The view from our window (room 1) was excellent, looking over the fields far far into the distance. In the morning you could see the low lying mist over the country side which added to the beauty of the landscape. You could also see some of the horses in the field and the little pony. Plenty of bats flying around as well as swifts and house martins.

The gardens are a real treat too, with plenty of seats to enjoy the hard work that the owners have put in.

The breakfast was perfect and set us up for a hard days touring. The owners are lovely and very welcoming, albeit the man of the house being something of a confusion?

Room Tip: This b&b is about five miles from Sherborne and its very hard to get a taxi on a Friday night so...

We stayed at Toomer Farm for two nights to attend a friend's wedding. The owners are very welcoming, the beds really comfortable and the breakfasts, which are served in the elegant dining room, are excellent. The only negative we have is that we had read other reviews saying there was a mini fridge in the room, but ours didn't have one and the en-suite was tiny with very low water pressure on the cold tap side.

Quiet and cosy B&B, dont expect mod-con hotel style facilities, however it was warm, provided comfort and the breakfast was good. Again, nothing out of the world but good. Its surrounded by a farm, hence the name, and looking out of the windows gives some really good views.
