Reviewed 8 April 2014

The statue has been in place for years and could do with a clean - a friend commented who nicked the ladder as it looks like hes been standing there for ages.

“Up in the wind”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

A low cost adventure, we thought there was not much wind but on the top we could barely stand. Views are very good up and down the straits. Not too good for the weak legged as quite a haul to the top. Overall very good climb.

“Worth it!”
Reviewed 12 November 2013 via mobile

Careful on the stairs. They are in bad shape. But the view was spectacular so it was well worth it! Bring a jacket even in summer because the winds are very blustery up top!

“Not safe”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

I visited the column with some friends, expecting the hard climb up the 115 steps to be rewarded by spectacular views from the top. However, the journey up was so distressing that the view was lost on all of us. The stairs are not safe and rotting. I weigh less than 9 stones (57 kg) and felt that I might fall through several of the steps. There is nothing to hold onto as you go up the stairway and some areas are very dark. Passing people is incredibly difficult given how narrow it is.
Definitely won't be recommending it to others.

“A rare chance to visit a high spot”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

fantastic veiws and a great chance to asend this historic column. you are advised that you go up at your own risk and thank goodness you can too many historic attractions have gone health and safety risk adverse. out of breath after 115 steps very windy at the top so white with fear.
