When I think of good museums, I generally think classic or modern art in the Parises,New Yorks, or Romes. But the truth is, walking through this was one of the most enlightening, enjoyable, and impressive museum experiences I've had.

Plain and simple, Senor de Sipan was a baller. This was all about his civilization and how we was honored in death with an incredible tomb. They have a life-sized model of what it looked like, and I'm not going to give anything away, but the guy went out in style. Get an early breakfast at the Chiclayo market, hop on a combi, and see this museum - you won't be disappointed!

This is a wonderful museum that is definitely worth a visit.

When going expect to pay around 25$ if you want an English speaking guide.

Also no cell phones or cameras are allowed inside, but there is a very secure room to drop them off and retrieve later.

The exhibits and artifacts are truly amazing.

I'm hoping in the future, they add self-guided tours, but its great as is.

Plan on about 90 minutes for the tour.

This national museum is truely a treasure! The Lord of Sipan has been called "The King Tut of Peru". The museum is filled with fantastic artifacts from the tomb. The museum itself is very well done...world class!

This national museum is fantastic! The Lord of Sipan has been called the "King Tut of Peru" and it's really true. So much incredible gold, stunning pottery, amazing artifacts! This is a world-class museum and is worth the trip to Chiclayo to see. If you're going to Peru, you don't want to miss it!

This is a wonderful museum... beautiful building inside and out and fabulous exhibits... you are led through the museum as part of the voyage of discovery - mirroring the way in which the great artifacts were found.... The material here rivals any in the world and the whole presentation is a great credit to those who designed it... It is truly world class...

However..... only 5% of the text is in English and a short film is only in Spanish.... A guide is OK but the level of technical detail in some of the exhibits is probably rather difficult to translate on the go (and is really interesting) and is certainly too much for my moderate Spanish. It wouldn't take much effort to translate and to put subtitles on the film.....

(Suspect it's to keep local guides in a job!!).... By the way, no English speaking guides were available when we were there....

However, really worth the visit even if it does mean staying the night in soulless Chiclayo!!
