Ok, so we didnt expect the Hilton or anything but there are basic standards that we thought would be met!

Yes we booked this room very last minute and yes we were delighted to find that we had been given the disabled room as I had noted on the booking that we were travelling with a disabled child, however the room was a big disappointment.

After reading the previous comments giving it 5 stars, I am not conviced that we stayed at the same place!!!

The beds were hard and had springs sticking out, the spare pillows had no cases on them and were yellow... the bathroom window didnt close (which is facing the pub carpark and the back of the kitchen), the television with a bracket on the wall which faced the opposite wall away from the beds (great for when you have children asleep early!) the shower was grimey with black mould up the curtain, the curtains in the bedroom were virtually see-through and there was no curtain on the front door which had a large frosted glass panel which faced the beds and let all the light through which woke up the children 'at the crack of dawn!!'

More importantly, baring in mind we were in a family room, the heating was on full when we arrived which was lovely, however during the night we all woke up freezing and ended up pushing the beds together to huddle up and keep warm!!!!!

I do have to add that we cannot comment on the breakfast, pub or the staff as we did not venture that way and to be honest we didnt particularly want to after the room appearance.

All in all, as we needed somewhere local to the Woodland Lakes Cabins to be near family staying there - we had a roof over our heads but we will not be staying here again.

Nice spacious room, very clean and quiet. The bed was huge and very good. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was very good and copious and service was excellent. We had a super nice stay in the Vale of York !

Have stayed here on 3 occasions, each time for over a week and will be staying again in the future, says it all really!!!
It's clean, has a T.V, Complimentary tea and coffee, Toilet, Shower and even a Bed LOL!!!
The breakfast is lovely, and served from 07:30am onwards with a very friendly, helpful waitress, indeed as are all the staff and the landlord at this Hotel, nothing is a problem!!!
The evening meals are very nice and a great way to finish of a busy day...
Yes, it may seam a bit basic for some peoples needs, but for the price what more do you really want or indeed require???

The landlord seems to prefer young odd staff members who take delight in offending customers wholesale. What a terrible place I wished that I had not gone in at all and certainly will not again. Top tip enter and leave by the back door then you do not have to wade through a cloud of smoke from the staff and locals who stand in the doorway smoking.

We booked as a last minute thing to go to Thirsk races on sat 18th, finding it was booked up, we thought we'll try friday 17th stay over and go to races on sat, excellent room, superb meal, good beers, friendly atmosphere with caring welcoming staff. Had a great time, and started the race day with a cracking breakfast. Would gladly stay again.

Room Tip: We had to book a twin as no others, so book early.

stayed here with my husband as a weekend away, weve seen this pub before and we were ataying there as a dummy run for july when we stay over for the racing,The pub had a really friendly atmosphere and the staff very lovely and very welcoming, our room which was a twin upstairs had a shower (with shampoo and shower jel) the water was red hot and the beds were comfortable, the stay was pleasant with a good nights sleep and a very good breakfast i would recommend this as it just mins from the station and about 10mins walk to the racecourse,We had evening meal there aswell and found the restaurant very good and plentiful well worth the money for the stay,

Room Tip: rooms upstairs will be quieter as there is a beer garden outside and will be noisy in the summer at...
