“Stunning ...... Amazing”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

I have just returned from a nights stay in the Lodge at Comlongon Castle. The venue is stunning and the staff are lovely . We had dinner at the Castle and the food and service was first class.
If I wasn't married already I would have loved a wedding at this venue, beautiful gardens and full of history .

Thank you to Phil & All his lovely staff for a lovely stay .

See you again soon

Room Tip: The Lodge , private walled garden & private entrance

As a surprise for my wife I planned a secret renewing of our vows for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and chose Comlongon Castle as our ideal venue. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms stunning and the hotel and castle 'a fairy tale' (my wife's words and mine!). All the staff were helpful, polite and were attentive to our every need, from the owner Phil and his personal, hands on approach, to the young men and women serving the food! All excellent! Two special mentions for Jennifer Macfarlane for helping me to arrange the finer details that made our day so perfect! (apart from the stress from our kilt hirers, but that's for another review and nothing to do with the staff at Comlongon Castel!) .
The second special mention is for Tom Bonnar, who carried out our traditional Scottish ceremony, supported by his lovely wife Sandra! A man with such a warm character and full of gems of useful knowledge, which he showed on our guided tour of the castle..wonderful!
The hotel and castle (an ancient watch tower) reek of history, with the suits of armour, weapons and colourful standards, really bringing the history and atmosphere of Comlongon Castle alive.

I could write pages and pages with how impressed we were with all they had to offer...but I have no need too! Just look at the consistent reviews or better still stay there. The Honeymoon suites where fantastic, and the Honeymoon Lodge was 'to die for'...amazing! We where 'film stars' for an evening!
Thank you to all and we will visit again to see our wedding stone! Excellent on every level!

Room Tip: If you have the budget..go for the Honeymoon Lodge!

In six weeks of touring Europe/UK, my room in Comlongon Castle is by far the worst - the room was tiny (a problem), with two single beds (not a problem), a view of part of the castle wall only 6' away (claustrophobic), windows that were painted shut and a bath with only a hand shower and no shower curtain (not good enough for an Australian who likes his shower).
Food in the banquet hall was quite "ordinary" - steak overcooked.
In short, if you're looking for the "experience" of staying in a castle, the OK. If you're looking for comfortable accommodation, then make sure you ask for a room other than Room 6. In my opinion the novelty of the castle did NOT outweigh the discomfort of the accommodation.
I stayed at the end of a Backroads Tour and this dampened the whole touring experience.

Room Tip: Possibly any room apart from Room 6 (AKA "The Maid's Snug".)

I would run out of space to tell you how incredible this castle is. I don't have a single complaint. We were there for my sister's wedding, everything went so wonderfully perfect. I can't fault the staff either they are so lovely and nothing was a hassle. Thank you all xx

We stayed formy sisters wedding, the venue it self was perfect for the occasion the service and the facilities could have offered more. the castle/rooms ran out of water before the wedding and the morning after, when brought to the staffs attention there was nothing done about it. the dinner service had around 20 mins between the bride and groom being served and the last person receiving there meal. Staff removed wedding cake before it was cut and dismantled then were rude when told it needed to be put back together in a specific way. My room on the top floor was dusty, with a broken tv stand and a wardrobe that smelt so bad it couldn't be used, not to mention the tags from someones suit under the bed.

Not acceptable for the prices they were charging.

Dear Reviewer, thank you for your comments. We pride ourselves on our service and particular our system of menu choice which allows all guests to choose their particular meal choices from an Al a Carte menu on the day. Our staff swiftly delivers each course to each guest within 6-8 minutes.
Having been in this business for 30 years we have encountered every problem imaginable when dealing with weddings that, quite honestly throw up challenging situations. This is why we spend a great deal of time with the Bride and Groom going over every detail of their day and recording their instructions as to how the day unfolds. This may not be what some of the guests want, as in when and where a cake is displayed or dealt with, but it is following the couple’s specific instructions. To do anything else would lead to huge confusion and a complaint from who at the end of the day are the client-the Bride and Groom.

We had an amazing experience on our Back Roads Touring GB Highlights trip and our last eve was spent in a wonderful suite in this historical castle. Our great guide, John, knew we had requested twin beds throughout our trip, and although this twin room would've been fine, he requested our move to the Murray suite to experience all Comlongon had to offer!

The owner gave a fantastic tour for our group of the tower and it's battle history which we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated all their staff's efforts for us.

Beautiful grounds, great staff and a wonderful meal together in the dining hall made our last night an evening we won't forget, especially with that wonderful room and four poster bed!

This really was the most incredible place, the castle was a genuine 15th century Scottish Castle. Which is constructed of pink dressed sandstone with a rubble insert. The rooms were spacious, with fantastic baths. The food was incredible. There were objects of the 15th century, around the castle to observe. The whole surroundings were beautiful with so many interesting nooks and interesting places to discover. The owner kindly explained the history of the caste, which we all enjoyed immensely.

Room Tip: If you love history, this is the place for you!
