Great service and food, would recommend for business or pleasure. The Coors Light is an exceptional pint and compliments the food well. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay, whether short or long is pleasurable.

We stayed bank holiday weekend at the end of May 2014. The hosts couldn't do enough to ensure we enjoyed our stay especially since they have only just taken over the motel 5 weeks ago. They loaned us their personal iron and hair dryer when we realised these did not come as standard in the rooms and even gave us a lift into York city centre when we struggled to get a taxi in the pouring rain! Room 1 was newly decorated, very modern and clean, had a lovely ensuite shower too. The only downside was the distance away from the city centre as taxis were very expensive (£10-£13 for a 4 mile journey) and the road works for the new park and ride caused delays - however when this opens it will be a lot easier for guests to get Into the city.

Food at the Red Lion was excellent and the Sunday roasts are huge!

Overall a very good stay ☺️

Hi Helen,

Thank you for your kind comments.
I will pass them on to our chef. It is always nice to know we get something right!

We enjoyed your company. Both the wife and I thought you had the most beautiful hair and amazing smile.

Please come back soon

Regards,

Lovely Sunday roast. Bit of a wait for food after ordering, but well worth the wait. Plenty of food, meat tender, veg hot, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings really nice. More veg, potatoes and stuffing were offered and subsequently brought to our table, so lots to eat! Will definitely be back!

Thank you Julie for your kind comments,
The wait has now been cut a little - I passed your review to the head chef.
It is a bit of a balancing act at the moment as we have just re-open the Red Lion and it is hard to gauge the demand. Steve, our chef say's he would rather people wait for the food a while than the food to wait for the people. That way he can be assured of the quality. Like you said - "It was worth waiting for"! Steve's view is that our customers will remember the quality long after they have forgotten about the wait.

Four of us enjoyed a wonderful meal last night at the Red Lion. The new owners Mark and Jean made us immediately welcome. The daily roast was exceptional, the meat was tender (kindly offered a selection of pork & beef when our friend could not decide which) and the rest of the plate was filled with Yorkshire pudding and fresh vegetables. Fish, chips and mushy peas were accompanied with a salad second to none. The special of the day was Rib Eye steak which again reflected the quality of the rest of the meals. I definitely would suggest trying this place now!

Had a business meeting here and an overnight stay.
The service was excellent and the food bang on. The bacon was particularly nice!
The room i stayed in was brand new, spacious and ticked all the boxes.
We used the room at the back for our meeting and it was perfect for our needs. Plenty tea and coffee as well!
I will certainly revommend the Red lion and its easy access to York.

Room Tip: Rooms seem to face an open garden for residents use only(away from the main road) Result on a noce d...

Hi Yorkie Jambo,

Thank you for your review, The Red Lion is getting busier and better all the time!
While you were having your meeting we took a booking for another one like yours. And since then 4 similar meetings including a group of 40 who want to meet and eat once a week.

Hope to see you all back soon.

Seeing the Red Lion had re opened we called yesterday for Sunday Lunch. Dont bother its the worst Sunday Lunch I have ever had. The Red Lion used to be 2nd to non for a Sunday Lunch but then it was a carvery, with good meat and excellent veg.
Starting we received a plate with 2 slices of meat, 4 roast potatoes and a yorkshire pudding with gravy. We were then given a small dish, between 2 of us, with roasted veg, consisting of maybe half a carrot, half a parsnip, 4 pieces of leek and 3 pieces of suede. The meat was dripping in blood, (half an hour earlier and we could have revived it). The roast potatoes were cold, dry obviously cooked previously, (probably on Friday!!!!!). The gravy was watery, well truthfully it was coloured water. I left hungry having eaten 2 slices of bloody meat, and a few parsnips. What a wast of money!

Hi Becky,

Obviously, I was very disappointed to read your review. I am sorry you felt so strongly about your Sunday lunch. So much so that it caused you to leave your very first review on trip advisor. Had I have been there at the time I would have seen it for myself. I did ask all the staff and the duty manager at the time if they were aware of this incident and none of them could recall any complaints. Had you mentioned any of this to the staff they would have had the opportunity to correct things for you.

Having spent a lot of money, time and hard work reopening the Red Lion it is not our intention to deliver anything less than perfect. I hope you will pay us a return visit and enjoy your meal the next time.

Having been to the Red Lion many times over the years it was good to see it re open after a 6 month gap. The new management have made it a warm ( literally) and friendly pub complete with log burner. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The landlord having been a butcher for 20 yrs produces their own sausages and burgers which were excellent and you can buy packs to take away. The ultimate try before you buy. We saw a group stocking up on sausages after their meal whilst we were there.

Well worth a visit and as the motel part is being totally refurbished shortly well worth a stay I would suggest.
