“Perfectly adequate but a bit pricey for facilities”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

This site is OK. No frills with only basic facilities but quite clean with no nasty surprises either. We were out most of the time but it was nice to have clean basic facilities to wash up & refill our water, empty toilet etc. The play area was quite nice. Another downside is that the pubs & shops are a bit of a trek. If you only want to stay a night or two or are exploring the area most of the time it is all right. It is very peaceful there and the staff are friendly enough too.

Thank you for your review, we really do appreciate your feedback.

We are a small friendly park and located in the lovely countryside of south east Cornwall, just under a mile from the main A38 and the village of Landrake, in a quiet and peaceful setting. We are a great base in which to explore this beautiful area.

Our June offer, to stay a week for just £84 for two people is excellent value and available if booked in advance.

We booked to stay at Dolbeare for five nights (but only did four due to family commitments), we had an amazing, with mostly lovely weather. Our pitch was located to the rear of the park and was nicely secluded and not over looked. The site is in a great location to visit many attractions in Cornwall, a lot of which we found out about from the site information hut. The toilets were clean and tidy, and never had to queue more than 5 minutes (we did stay before the schools broke up). Staff members were really helpful with directions and recommendations. Little bit of noise from the boarding kennels not far off but nothing to complain about. Wildlife and scenery were lovely. If we visit the area again we would definitely return and stay at Dolbeare.

Having recently had a fourteen night stay at Dolbeare Caravan Park, me and my family have nothing but praise for this wonderful site. Owners Chris and Ian are very friendly and could not do enough for us. The site itself is extremely clean and friendly and the location on the Devon/Cornwall boarder could not be better. I would highly recommend this site to anyone wanting to visit the south west. The Thewlis Family, Huddersfield.

We really enjoyed our summer stay at this park, and it was the ideal mix of lovely relaxing park and good location for days out for us.
The park's so nicely kept, with friendly staff, and the toilet & shower block is the nicest we've ever seen on a campsite (thank you!).
Our friends valued the fact that they could keep an eye on their little ones playing while we were looking after the barbeque (we were near the play area), and it's good that there's a big fenced area for kicking a ball about.
The nature trail through the park is such a lovely treat too :-)

We have just come back from a 6 night stay at Dolbeare. Generally a lovely site which caters for caravans and tents. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and always went the extra mile. The site had many plus points..... We have a 3 and 1 year old and the play area was exceptionally good, usually we are terrified of them falling off the top of slides or being kicked from other kids swinging too high! This play area was ideal for them. The paddock was great for playing football with the kids. As such a family friendly site, I would make a couple of recommendations....the family bathroom was great but in many of the sites I have stayed at, the family bathroom has a bath in it which is always useful. Also, it is useful if you can 'book' the use of the family bathroom as we have done in previous sites, where you can book a 15 or 20 minute slot at a certain time. Each time we took the kids over for showers etc, it was always full and its hard to queue with toddlers! Eventually we gave up! I would stay at the site again and I would recommend it. I do agree with other reviews that I would question the 5* rating and probably give it a 4. There were only 2 showers in the ladies which is not enough. Other than that, a really enjoyable stay, thank you so much.

This site is not 5 star in my my book simply due to the shower/toilet block.
The site is in a great location, is quiet and relaxed and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
There are plenty of plus points for the little site.
The paddock field is great for tents and has large pitches that are set round the outside so it gives you the feeling of more space, but the rest of the site seems a bit on top of each other.
I would visit again if the shower blocks were a little cleaner and more spacious as for me this is the only thing that bothered me. Cleaning once a day is not enough. I have stopped at many Best of British sites and many clean 2/3 times per day in between the major cleans, plus they clean them at night when things are generally quiet. I am only being honest in stating that each time I went in they did not strike me as very clean.
Shower cubicles should have a curtain between the shower/change area or a step down into the shower area, the shower head should be adjustable so you don't need to pin yourself to the wall, the shower cubicle itself should be completely sealed to the floor rather than other people's waste splashing underneath, some air fresher would be nice, 1 hand dryer that barely works is not good enough, 1 private sink cubicle is not enough.
The undercover washing up area is great but almost bigger than the shower/ toilet area.
I also feel that the kids play area is too small and basic and completely in the wrong position, being right next to pitches rather that in a separate area which they could have easily done.
The paddock could have done with cutting as the grass was very long and it would also be helpful if the stinging nettles were cut back from around the electric point posts.
I would not put people off from trying this site as I am personally a bit fussy about the showers/toilets but when somewhere is given 5 stars I would expect better as many other sites are well worthy of this award.
For location, peacefulness , staff and general layout I would probably just give 4 stars.

Thank you for your review. We do appreciate the time and trouble you have taken to write it.

Your 3 day stay at Dolbeare Park, coincided with it being at a particularly busy period. If our amenity block was not as clean as you were expecting, then we can only apologise and will look at our processes to determine improvements that can be made in future.

Regarding the style and design of our amenity block, the fittings have to be strong, durable, robust, tamper free and easily repairable so as to keep maintenance at a minimum.

They are also very standard - you will find this design on many five star parks. We were awarded the Loo of the Year Platinum Award for 2013.

Grass is always a problem! We cannot cut grass if it is wet, as it clogs up the mower and leaves deposits everywhere. This then gets walked into caravans and tents (with complaints) and the amenity block which results in blocked drains. Cutting the grass when too hot and sunny, results in burnt grass. It is a tricky one and if you felt it was too long, then we can only apologise and will try to do better next time.

Every year, we have many inspections, less than one week prior to your short visit with us, we were inspected and retained our 5 star award.

During your stay on any park, should you have any problems or issues, please do come to Reception and advise them and to give them the opportunity of putting things right.

Hi we went there at the beginning if august.upon entry seems fine.went in and confirmed resavation.paid for pass cards.sign saying if you pass this point without sighning in you will pay £5.
As we were setting up seen owner repremanding 5 and 6 year olds for playing with chess set roughly and I quote.if you don't play properly she will shout at them now it nobody but the parents job to reprimand there own children. !But also theres a dog walking area were dogs must be kept on leads if they wee in grass £5 to re turf area. There was a family with a dog they went out leaving dog safely in huge dogcrate with water and food and cushions as we could clearly see..we spoke to this family who told us said the caravan site is a joke freinds oc owner dogs bark all night as n when they feel like. The toilets are clean but hot tap head come off in my hand. 4 or 5 off the campers we spoke to said there arrogant attitude would not let stay here ever again o yes they also confiscated a ball and parents asked for it back and after a moaning at they got there ball. So its a camp site that takes dogs but they cannot run in dog area or any where local I fully understan that all dog owners are diffrent and some abuse it.but come on. also dog kennels on other side off feilds dogs yelping all night I am a dog owner but this place is a huge no no for dog lovers. also children should be seen not heard tnhey constantly stand watching to repremand. Over priced shop I am a mormal easy going guy but this place is a joke dont bother !!!!!!!! Children were very apprehensive about playing as all kids including the harmless ones were warned i have a greay respect for other pepolesproperty but come one toddlers for christ sakes.I am sure. They will reply with some answer saying dilbeare park this dolbeare park that and policees .its cool if you dont heed my warning seriously theres loads better local and towards looe and torpoint .our family returned yesterday I am to polite and well versed to place what they have said . If you want a caravam site thays run by the money grabbing luffwaffer. Then go fine for pensioners but not for familys.or dogs. We are a family we are a family with strong values with loads of camping and caravan experience have been enjoyed our caravanning for years.wait for reply it will be very erl worded and diverting all blame from them selves. Tottally bad experience woul never ever go there again

Just to clarify a few inaccurate points:

We are fairly certain that you were not even a guest on the park, just a day visitor, who by the way, is allowed to enter the park (as long as they register at Reception upon arrival) completely free of charge.

The family with the dog in the crate that was left for a short while when they went out, had just lost their other dog only a few days before, the dog in the crate was so distressed at being left on his own that we had to ask the owners to return. The dog was closed in the awning, so you wouldn't have been able to see his bed or bowl of water!

This year, only two children were told off for playing football with the giant chess pieces and did have their ball confiscated. The children came to Reception, apologised for their behaviour, and the ball was immediately returned.

We have found that when children (whatever age) are throwing chess pieces, we ask them to put the pieces back in the right places and we help them if they don’t know. Then we chat about what piece goes where and by the time we leave them, they are actually playing chess with a new friend. Children love chatting and this best practice really does work! It was a shame you were not there to listen.

We have never claimed to have a dog exercise area. There are miles and miles of country lanes and footpaths that you can walk along from Dolbeare Park.

We are really saddened and disappointed by your review. We were only ever friendly, polite, helpful and kind to your family - like we are to all our guests.

We do not and did not deserve such an unkind review especially from a family with apparently such strong values.
