Climbing uphill ,it was a most pleasant experience, all this wonderful vegetation . The Monastery very atmospheric and interesting, all of it. And the view down to Lake Maggiore with the snowed mountains all around was unique, especially under a blue sky, as I was lucky to have. A place not to be missed if someone is at the region.

Beautiful quiet and reflective Church, well worth the walk up the winding path. visitors with mobility issues would need to take the finicular. Magnificent art inside the church and wonderful views of Locarno and Lake Maggiore from outside

We were driving through Locarno and by chance drove by this amazing Sanctuary. After parking the car, we walked down the block and then down down down the steps to this stunningly beautiful Church/sanctuary. The founding of the sanctuary goes back to a vision of the Virgin Mary that the Franciscan brother Bartolomeo d'Ivrea had in 1480. The interior is highly decorated, and a platform gives a magnificent view of the city. There is a museum, a near life-size statue of the Last Supper on the stairway. The best-known painting in the church is La Fuga in Egitto, painted in 1522 by Bramantino. I loved it here.

A funicular runs every 10 to 15 minutes up and down the large hill. Taking you into the town of Locarno, worth the visit for sure!

Well, I already reviewed it but last year in April it re-opened after a thorough restoration and now it is even more beautiful.
Follow the path leading from Locarno to Orselina, stop at the shrines as you go uphill, very artistic and spiritual. If you don't want to walk up then take the funicular "Locarno-Madonna del Sasso" and walk back (if your'e lazy). Once on the summit of the rock, the view is breathtaking!
By the way don't miss the alter and it's carved wooden statue of the Madonna (15th century).
