“Amazing place ”
Reviewed 21 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Had an absolutely amazing weekend stay at the Hibiscus Villa. Very relaxing setting with essentially a stunning private beach and beautiful villa to stay in! The staff were very friendly and helpful with and queries or requests we had. Would highly recommend a visit!

“The most amazing beach Holiday”
Reviewed 21 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Wow what an amazing place to stay. Jetol was such a great host and answered all our questions and gave us so many ideas about what to see and do in the local area.
The beach is all yours except for some local fishermen and some friendly dogs. The surf is warm and fun! There's a great little cafe one beach south called The Secret Place Cafe. We had a beach BBQ under the stars with Roby, Lilly and their 7 children. Make sure you visit and support the locals!!
The hut has all you will need - espresso machine, books, board games, stocked fridge, mosquito net and a comfy bed. James was great to deal with and provides accurate directions from KK. I'll be back for sure.
Thanks again Jetol!!

“Perfect honeymoon spot”
Reviewed 21 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Review for James

The directions were easy to follow and Jetol was waiting for us when we got there making it all very simple. The initial view as you come out of the bush to the house and the beach was breath-taking. James's team supplied everything we needed so all that there was to do on the first day was pack and order food from Tip Top Restaurant which was kindly delivered. The beach is stunning and the sunsets unworldly. We stayed 11 nights and spent our days swimming, snorkelling the reef, sunbathing and reading books. It was hot. We did take a few excursions to the nearby attractions but this beach in itself is the best attraction and you barely ever have to share it with anyone. Strongly recommend this house - we came for our honeymoon and it was perfect.

Liked best: The location. You have to see it.
Liked least: At the end of our stay we had to leave and return to the real world and dumb stuff like work.

“Perfection in Paradise”
Reviewed 20 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Absolutely stunning. Every wish catered for. Spectacular sunsets. Very friendly staff and locals.
Be nice to Jetol & ask him to take you on the mangrove tour. His local knowledge & very friendly, helpful personality made the break that much more special.
Various types of wildlife, we saw a pair of kingfishers several time a day, some sort of eagle, several squirrels (including some black ones), and what may have been otters.
Heard monkeys nearby. Saw a wild orang utan on the drive to Sepilok!
We are going back, just as soon as we can save up ;-)

“Perfect seclusion”

Hibiscus Beach Retreat is a true gem, hidden away on a stunning completely secluded beach. It's as perfect and romantic as the photos showed, and provided a very relaxing vacation. We were fully aware that we booked our stay during the rainy season. Nevertheless, we had a few perfectly sunny days, and the bay still looks stunning even in the pouring rain. The staff (especially the caretaker Jetol) are always discreetly nearby and very helpful. The big sturdy umbrellas they provided allowed us to still go on a lovely walk through the kampongs on a rainy afternoon, where cheerful children shouted hello to us from their verandas. Nearby Tip Top restaurant provides delicious authentic food (try their healthy mixed juices as well!) and the Hibiscus staff is happy to deliver the meal to you if you'd rather dine in. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay, including DVDs and books. Do bring some bug repellant; depending on the weather and the time of day, you may encounter some bitey little critters when you venture outside the cottage. You're truly surrounded by nature, and you will have it all to yourself!

“Closest thing to unreal that I have been to”
Reviewed 3 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

This amazing retreat was at first a bit of a mission to get to however as soon as you get out of that taxi and take a short stroll towards the chalet through the jungle, you are instantly captivated by the magnificent view of the beach, the beach was an absolute beaut to gaze, we were so tired from the trip thinking we were gna sleep as soon as we got there but the feeling of total seclusion we got made all original fatigue drift away as we fell victims to the beauty of the beach, the staff were absolutely helpful and literally would go the extra mile for you, jetol was more of a friend than staff, his " that can be arranged" quote in that terminator accent still cracks me up, the retreat is literally as described, our honeymoon surprise was brilliant, the activities were superb, be sure to explore the local area aswell, we also met James the manager and his hospitable parents where we found them to be spectacularly nice to speak with, we really hope to meet them soon as we are thinking very hard about renting the villa for the next trip. Thank you for making our honeymoon special .

“Very Relaxing Few Days at the Beach Retreat!”
Reviewed 16 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We (my girlfriend and I) booked 3 days at the beach retreat and ended up extending another day for a total of 4 days! Staying at the beach retreat was definitely one of the highlights of our vacation in Borneo! The location, the house, and the staff (especially Jetol, who helps you with anything you need!) looking after you during your stay were amazing! Booking with James was very easy and convenient and he was very helpful in giving us tips on how to best arrive at Kudat and the beach retreat. We ended up choosing to take the bus from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat (30 MYR) and then a taxi to the beach retreat from Kudat (60 MYR) - worked very smoothly, although you should be comfortable with riding public transportation in Malaysian, as the bus is quite old - the other option is to rent a car for maximum flexibility. Once we got there we were dumbfounded at the location of the retreat - it really is as beautiful as it look in the pictures! Perched upon a small cliff on the beach surrounded by trees, it is quite an amazing location. The beach is directly accessed from the house and is very remote - during a typical day we saw only a few people walk around on the beach, mostly locals looking for fish. We ended up spending a lot of time on the porch connected to the house and just enjoying the amazing view and weather - it was a very relaxing few days! We also ended up doing the approx. 3-4 km hike along the beach at low tide to the Tip of Borneo (actually to the Tip Top Restaurant, also a great place to visit!) - prepare to do some hopping along the rocks on the beach while enjoying the scenery and fish/crabs roaming about! We also rented the mountain bikes offered at the retreat to the Tip of Borneo two nights. We also made use of the take-out service for dinner offered by the retreat - the staff will make a quick visit to the Tip Top Restaurant and bring you dinner to the retreat for a small fee - very convenient!

All in all, we highly recommend the beach retreat when visiting Borneo (especially for couples, as it is optimized for 2 persons) - it is well worth the price and is quite a unique place to stay at! Thank you to James and the complete staff (especially Jetol) for making our stay a memorable one!
