The little forest village of Amamoor was a perfect getaway for a birthday weekend for the men. Amamoor Lodge provides guests with a little slice of Australianna and huge dollops of country hospitality.
The replica Cobb & Co coach with driver in period costume transported the four of us to the station to catch the steam run Mary Valley Rattler to Gympie where we enjoyed our pub lunch before returning to a cosy log fire.
Part of our evening meal was cooked over a "camp fire" while we all sat round soaking up John's bush yarns.
The home cooked country food was delicious but servings far toooooo large.
Cynthia produced an impromptu Choc/cherry ripe birthday cake for the men.Yummm!
Breakfast on the verandah was magic with the birds singing and the mist clinging to the paddocks.
The accommodation was so comfortable and had a great country feel.Cynthia's country lodge interior decoration was spot on.
This would be a perfect venue for Christmas in July with friends or an excellent spot to treat overseas guests to a little slice of country.

After a long flight from Boston, I was warmly greeted by hosts John and Cynthia Hayes at Amamoor Lodge in the beautiful Mary Valley, QLD. The setting is scenic bush and the air is constantly punctuated by the rich calls of native bird life. I stayed in the B&B in a renovated timber lined room (with ensuite) that was original to the house and from the days of the Cobb & Co Coaches (John has a replica coach that is in use regularly). There are also lovely adjacent new motel style units for those not requiring meals. Do yourself a favor and stay in the B&B. Cynthia and John's cooking is absolutely out of this world - authentically Australian with international appeal with only the freshest ingredients. A group of Japanese guests were so impressed that they photographed every meal! It is beyond relaxing to sit by the open fire in a rocking chair at the end of the day, out near John's shed, with a glass of wine in hand, while John prepares a starter for the evening meal. John cooked the best steak I've eaten in years over that fire. The property was pristine clean and my bed may well have been the most comfortable that I've ever slept in. I stayed for 3 nights but wished it could have been a lot longer. My accommodation was arranged by Olympian Alex Watson's "Equathon" horse riding tours. Equathon are repeat customers at Amamoor Lodge for a reason!

We stayed one night on our way back to Brisbane & we wished we stayed longer! Was so peaceful & beautiful. The owner even arranged a horseback ride for us when we arrived for that afternoon. If we ever go back to Australia-- we would center it around staying here again for sure, for much longer than a night! Would recommend this to anyone even going near this area ;-)

John and Cynthia Hayes are the most gracious hosts. We were greeted warmly, given a tour of the home and made to feel at "home" in the very first minutes. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of this B&B fincluding the workmanship of the home, the decor, the cleanliness, the food and the fun. We also learned a great deal not only about the local culture but the country of Australia. Our only regret is that we live on the other side of the world and a return visit won't be possible any time soon.
