“Nice New Condos”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

The condos are new, well equipped and across the street from a quiet beach. The location is between Holetown and Speightstown but not very convenient to anything within walking distance. If you do walk, you have to be very careful because the road is narrow, the traffic is fast and there are not always sidewalks. It is quite easy to get around by bus, however and they run often and only cost $1.00 each way (US) We had a rental car but I preferred to take the bus bc I didn't like driving on the narrow roads.

We stayed in Apt. 1 on the first floor from which you could walk right out to the pool. We could not see the ocean but I think the 3rd floor apartments probably had a very nice view. Ours had a TV which got Miami stations and the internet was very good. I was not bothered by the traffic at all.

We also took taxis and found the people of Barbados to be very friendly and helpful. Fun things we did included the Jolly Roger Cruise where we snorkeled and saw some turtles, Harrison Caves and Aerial Trek zip lining. Restaurants we enjoyed were Just Grillin, Lone Star, Surfside, Caribas, and Spago at Settler's Beach. We also found a fun local bar called the Golden Anchor.

If you're traveling with a family or group and don't want to pay hotel prices, these would be a very good option. It felt very safe and there was always a security guard on duty at night.

These apartments are newly built, they are split into 2 blocks. 1-21 and the other around the back assume. 22 - 40 s.... we stayed in no 17, well equipped, comfortable, 3 bedrooms ( master, a 2 beds and 2 x bunkbeds.) nicely furnished with a good kitchen everything you could think of etc., living room. patio etc. nearby pool. all thumbs up. BUT, THIS PLACE IS ON A NOISY BUSY MAIN ROAD, IF YOU ARE NOISE SENSITIVE AND LIKE TO SLEEP LATE, FORGET IT.!!! the girl i spoke to when i booked said it yes its quiet, WELL SHES CLEARLY NOT BEEN HERE!! Also wi fi is almost non existent. so if thats important to you, dont believe the rumour of wi fi at no 17... weston is a secluded fishing village that sells fish and one small shop. the other reviewer says nearby restaurants. IT HAS NONE. !! it is 4km from Speightstown and 4km from Holetown.. the nearest place to grab a bite is a shop that does a promotional barbeque MAYBE on a friday or sat night, the nearest TOP place to eat is a 15 minute walk to the EXPENSIVE LONE STAR, next to the Ramshackle cafe and beach bar and also Ju Ju s cafe,, dont think you are in the midst of bars etc..YOU ARE NOT. DONT BE MISLEAD ...if you are in apartment 22 onwards i should think its quieter, however, i would not re book because.of the location.

We appreciate your feedback which supports our continuous efforts to improve our services and overall customer experience.
To address the comments made by "sunnyhoney1", there are a selection of apartments that are professionally managed by Island Villas Ltd which all have the same amenities and standards, including wireless Internet, daily housekeeping, Cable TV, a safe, concierge service. Unit 17 is not one of the units managed by Island Villas Ltd, and we therefore cannot comment on the unit's amenities.
The TripAdvisor website states that Lantana is minutes away from Lonestar Restaurant. While it might not be walking distance, the restaurant can be reached within five minutes' drive or less. Mullins Beach is approximately 10 minute's drive from the resort, however, Alleyne's Bay and miles of sandy beach are accessible just opposite of Lantana.

Although I had been to Barbados three times before, I wanted to share the experience with my partner and stumbled across these self-catering apartments on the West coast in St James.

My family and I had always stayed on the West coast when we visited and found it to be the most picturesque with breathtaking beaches (the water really is that blue), delicious and varied restaurants within walking distance and having the necessary amenities (petrol station, supermarket, shopping mall local fish market and vegetable/fruit stalls) close-by.

Lantana is a new development and you can see it has been constructed thoughtfully to appeal to all types of visitors. We hired a car for the 12 nights we were there which gave us the freedom to explore the island and make trips to the supermarket and shops when we wanted. As soon as you drive up to the entrance you feel safe - a security guard was often there who came to know us by the end of our stay. There was ample parking around the back of the building and if hiring a car isnt for you, there is a bus stop right outside the apartments - it really couldnt be easier!

The apartment we stayed in (Number 20) was in the front block on the top floor (meaning we had an extremely spacious top-floor apartment) with gorgeous views across the green fields to the sparkling blue waters at the beach. It is a matter of steps from the front door of the apartment to the beach - something which we found fantastic for those early morning swims with the turtles. The beach across from the apartments is also entirely deserted and we loved being the only people around most of the time.

The Number 20 apartment was HUGE! It has airy sloped ceilings and even though there was only two of us, we were allowed to use the entire apartment (including the other 3 bedrooms) which was much nicer than being confined to a small 1 bedroom apartment. The lounge and kitchen form one room with extremely comfortable sofas and a tv and wifi to keep in touch with loved ones back home. There is also a little desk and chair in the corner if you bring a laptop with you, providing a lovely working area.

The bedrooms have all been decorated in a similar way (beautiful coral print on the cushions) with plenty of storage and a total of three bathrooms (2 en-suite and one house bathroom) which made it easier for my partner and I meaning we didn't have to share.

Now comes the best bit - the balcony. WOW! The balcony stretched the whole way from the kitchen/lounge to the master bedroom and was fully equipped with a massive corner settee and a dining table for 8 people. The balcony overlooked the pool (which believe it or not, we didn't use once - but it was quiet and looked very tempting!) and had the most beautiful views over to the beach (the sky was regularly lit up with the setting sun or rainbows depending on the weather).

Although there were other families staying in the apartments, we did not once hear them (there was even a very small baby who we didn't hear cry at all). There is also a primary school across the road which we loved watching every morning - especially one little boy whose backpack I'm sure was bigger than him!

The space in the apartment really was the deciding factor for us and provided a cheaper alternative to staying in a hotel (which from experience, can be very costly) and also gave us the freedom to do what we wanted, when we wanted. We had free-run of the apartment which would be perfect for girly holidays, families or even a group of friends wanting to enjoy Barbados together.

The apartment is also ideally located - To the left of the apartment is the famous Lonestar (where Simon Cowell regularly dines) as well as beach restaurants JuJu's and Ramshackle, a petrol station and supermarket as well as a newly constructed exquisite shopping mall (with Louis Vuitton, MAC, Ralph Lauren etc) which also has a good variety of restaurants (we tried the Greek place and the Thai a few times - yum) and to the right is the famous (and our favourite) Mullins beach, the delicious Bombas restaurant and a little further along, the Fish Pot restaurant. We never needed to venture further than a ten minute drive away apart from when we visited the East of the island to watch a surf competition (and drive down the famous Cherry Tree Hill - worth hiring a car for the day) and to visit the South to try Mojo's burger which we had heard so much about.

It was also quite interesting seeing the different parts of the island - the East is very local but with gorgeous deserted beaches and the South is much more of your typical tourist spot with high-rise hotels and an abundance of English tourists. We felt a little relieved to be going back to the tranquility of our quiet apartment on the West coast after a few hours out South!

I simply cannot recommend Lantana enough - it is in an ideal location with gorgeous views, it is extremely safe (it is easy not to feel safe in certain areas of Barbados), is within walking distance of everything you could ever need and is on a very good bus route should you wish to venture further afield. It was cheaper than a hotel and much nicer having your own freedom and I am already booking my next trip back!

Don't hesitate to book - it really is spectacular and the perfect holiday!

Room Tip: I would definitely recommend booking Apartment 20. It is one of the largest there which means you ha...
