Stayed for a week in Jan. Will definitely be back! The apartments (we stayed in 38) are in a great location (you do need a car) close to the beach and easy to get to a number of excellent restaurants. Recommend The Lonestar, Beach House, Cin Cins & the Mullins for a good lunch/ beach spot just up the road! Apartments themselves have a lovely pool, lots of space and are decorated beautifully with everything you would expect from a holiday rental.

We were not certain what to expect on arrival but we were not disappointed, number 38 Lantana is ground floor in the back block, spacious with all mod cons. and the most perfect position for a relaxing wind down holiday. Unlike most visitors or residents we didn't have a car but with a bus stop outside the apartments that wasn't a problem. Lantana is located half way between Holetown and Speightstown a (Barbadian) $2 ride either way and the buses come by on a regular basis. Mullerns Beach just down the road $2 is exciting for water sports and Mullerns Beach Bar offers a good lunch, or the beach shop sells snacks and cold beers. The beaches within walking distance of the apartment are almost private, we took the beach chairs from the apartment and found our spot, heaven, there is always John Moores Rum shack to stop at on the way home!!! Holetown offers a place to eat for any budget we were lucky enough to catch the end of the carnival, that night we ate from a stall. We also fine dined The Lone Star just along the road was only officially opened a couple of weeks ago by Alex Ferguson and Brian Robson, now that was well worth a visit. So was the beach next door and lunch at Ju Ju's beach hut (very reasonable) nice to people watch. We were only there a week it's not enough, just spending time around the apartment and pool was so relaxing. We will definitely return and for longer next time

Lantana Apartments were absolutely perfect for our holiday. We stayed at Number 38 which had a really large terrace overlooking the pool where we had breakfast every morning. Inside, the apartment was really tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean, fully equipped and HUGE!

Lantana is really well situated for all the best restaurants on the West Coast, so we ate out most evenings. The Lone Star was so amazing that we ate there twice but other top restaurants such as Cin Cin and the Beach House are accessible. Similarly, the island's best beaches are all a short distance from Lantana so we tried a different one every day. Mullins, which is 5 minutes up the road has a great atmosphere with a beach bar and water sports.

The Lantana Apartments themselves have a nice vibe and feel more private and exclusive than a hotel. We cooked dinner at the apartment twice and the kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils. There is a large living / dining area and also the terrace outside so we could have entertained the whole village.

Would love to go back to Lantana and recommend anyone staying here to hire a car to take advantage of the whole of the West Coast!

Apartment no 11 was in the centre on the first floor of the front block. Managed by Island Villas in Holetown it was very well equipped with excellent furniture and kitchen equipment. A microwave oven was the only odd omission especially as it would be cheaper to run than the main oven.
The unit had full folding patio doors on the bedroom and lounge. Lounge and dining furniture both on the veranda and indoors.
These units are privately owned in two blocks with two pools some of them rented. The front is part of the local scene with the primary school and the main road nearby. We loved it but if you want to chill out by the pool go for one on the back. Ours was quiet at night, but the yellow buses can be heard all over the island in the day, so no different here.
We hired a car from the airport for our stay and it was an advantage. Saving on taxis and getting around the island,we were able to do things that you could not do by bus.
Lantana is situated between Holetown and Speightstown in the classiest part of the island, and you can get buses cheaply, but the main shopping is in these towns. A small fishmarket, veg stall and rumshack is just down the road and they are all very good.
The narrow beach opposite runs along the front of some of the most valuable properties on the island, you can go anywhere, as there are no private beaches in Barbados.
The shoreline can be stoney but with care you can find a sandy patch that takes you out to deaper water. Gibbs Beach about 1km away is better for swimming with a sandy foreshore.
Colin Sweet leaves with his Hobie 18 cat at 10 and returns at about 4 most days and is a great character for taking you out on a very good boat. Billy also leaves from the beach in front of the villas around the same time on his jetski.
Boat trips and all bookings can be done through Portia and Rachel was excellent looking after our property, both at Island Villas.
This is a lovely area, the locals friendly and at no time did we feel ill at ease.
This is one of the best holidays we have had.

Apartment 15 was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, a great size and had every little household item we needed. The bed in the master bedroom was huge and sooooo comfortable - we both slept really well :) Jean, the owner, was excellent with her communications before we left and arranged for her housekeeper to meet us there and show us round and explain everything. There was also plenty of info about things to do on the island and a fast Internet connection. The only thing not working was the tv but that was a good thing for us. As others have reported, the apartment block is situated right next to the busy coast road and the noise from buses and trucks braking round the corner and accelerating up the hill isn't great when you're by the pool and out on the balcony. Once inside with the door shut though you don't hear it at all, nor do you hear it when on the beach. We would strongly recommend hiring a car because there isn't much near the block, and there are very few pavements by the busy road, but with a car it's only a few minutes to get to Holetown and Speightstown. (The apartments have ample parking and you feel very safe leaving cars there overnight as they have a security guard on the boom gate). Some of the yellow bus drivers are crazy - in fact we came across a bus that had just overturned, injuring 16 passengers :-/ Mullins Beach Bar and the Lone Star restaurant were both lovely places for lunch just 5 mins drive away. We also had delicious pizzas at Spago at The Sandpiper Resort, v
near Holetown. All in all a lovely place to stay, a good location for exploring the island, a beautiful beach just over the road and a wonderfully equipped and decorated, clean and spacious apartment - oh, and awesome value for money!

We have just returned from two weeks staying at lantana Resort. The location was fanyastic, positioned a one minute walk from some of the nicest beaches on the West Coast in St James. This was our second visit. The first holiday we stayed in the front block, this we must say was a totally different experience. Grt views, but a lot of noise from the road.... something the £15million villas opposite must experience too. Having said that, the rear block, has NO noise whatsoever, and when returning next time, will be sure to book an apartement in the rear, second block. having said all that, its grt value for money, and a lovely block to look at. We stayed at no 27, and lookforward to returning again

Room Tip: Ground floor have better access to the pool

Lantana 17 looks lovely on the website, giving the impression of a nice apartment in an idyllic setting near the beach. However what it fails to mention is that it the apartment is right on the corner of a very busy main road right next to the bus stop. This is a major downfall if you want to a) sleep b) relax either on the balcony, by the pool or in the apartment itself.
We were told by Candelisa, the company that manage the apartment that the house manager would be there to meet us on arrival, which she was. One of the first things she said to us was ‘ they did tell you it was on a busy noisy road didn’t they?’ Well they hadn’t. In fact Candelisa had said it was quiet!
Some of the other issues we had were:
• Air con not working in the living room when we arrived. We were told it was probably the batteries and that we should go out and get some - not ideal after a long journey
• Cold water – we had to locate the switch to turn the boiler on and wait before we could have a shower – again not ideal after a long journey
• Towels with big brown stains on them in the master suite and more stained towels in the cupboards
• Only one aircon controller between the two smaller bedrooms for the aircon. Not ideal if you want to change the temperature in the middle of the night! (or any other time really)
• No internet even though it says on the advert on the internet that there is. Initially the house manager said there was none and couldn’t possibly be the case as there was no telephone line even. When I said it was on the ad she called the owner who said we ‘might’ be able to get on to the Candelisa network if we stood at the far end of the pool. However, there was no connection for most of our stay. The television connection didn’t work either.
• Very minimal info given to us regarding the apartment and surrounding area on arrival by the house manager. This would have been less of a problem had the internet been working so we could have found out the info we needed ourselves.
• An illuminated main bedroom due to the headlights coming around the corner on the main room and the curtains being too thin to block this out. I had to stand on a chair and hang towels over the curtain rail every night to try and block this out so I could get some sleep.
• Paying for cleaning that was supposed to be carried out once a week but didn’t actually happen

We bumped into the house manager during our stay at a local bar and explained the issues we were having. She said she would come around within the next couple of days but never showed up.

The other thing regarding the location of the apartment is that it is midway between two towns with very little by way of amenities close by (one very small shop and a rum bar) so not good for those without a car. The nearest place to eat is a 15 minute walk. There is a small supermarket a 10 minute walk away but really only good for basics. With either option you have to walk along the busy road (some pavement but not much). It feels quite dangerous given some drivers notion of what is acceptable passing space!

This was my first trip to Barbados and I was really looking forward to something rather special. It does seem like a lovely island, however were I to return I would not stay at this apartment complex or book through Candelisa who seem to be very much focused on taking the money rather than the enjoyment of their guests.
