My family and I stayed at Cap Maison last month. We travel a lot so we have a large experience with all types of hotels.Well, what we have to say about our experience: The staff is very nice. The location and views are great.
The rooms are big but there are somethings they have to improve such the room windows (You hear everything you dont want to hear, the lights pass trough in the morning, and you cannot get the room cold enough) the bathroom balcony is too small and there is a tap under the shower that can injury someone and you dont need it for anything.
At the restaurant (The Cliff), we had a bad experience when we asked for a San Pelegrino and the guy brought us a soda water pretending to be it.You must be carefull and see if they are really open it in front of you.The food was not good and the waiter brought my plate wrong.
In average this is a good 3 star hotel but not for the price you pay for.

I am pleased that the reviewer liked the location, position and staff of Cap Maison and I wanted to touch on a couple of comments which were raised

The villa suite the reviewer stayed is 2,000 square feet, there is no balcony within the bathroom. The tap below their shower is a foot shower and is very useful if you have just come from the beach and want to rinse your feet.

We do not sell or offer mineral water by the glass and we would normally present the bottle to the table. I am aware that during their stay there was no San Pellegrino on the entire island.

The comments on food are subjective and are not typical of the vast majority of comments received. I would also note that the reviewer ate with us 4 days out of 5 days they stayed with us.

My wife & I just returned from 8 excellent days at Cap Maison. We looked at several comparable options before booking this hotel and say with certainty that we made the right decision. First to address the primary recurring negative in the reviews which nearly caused us to book elsewhere:

"The service is poor." We found the staff to be exceptionally friendly and responsive to our needs. I will say that in comparison to some of the 5 stars we have stayed at in the US or Europe the service was a bit slower. But people - you are considering a trip to an island in the Carribbean. Everything is more relaxed. If you are heading to St Lucia for TAJ service I recommend you change your plans. We visited two other resorts and ate at 5 or 6 other restaurants and perhaps with the exception of Tao at Le Sport we did not encounter any service better than that at Cap Maison.

"No A/C / heat / mosquitos." It is HOT in St Lucia. You can find hotel rooms on the island that have A/C but they will be one room. Most of the nicest hotels have limited A/C if any. Two of the nicest hotels (Jade Mountain and Ladera have only three walls - that means no A/C and plenty of bugs. At Cap Maison (in our room anyway) you can open up doors on three walls and enjoy the breeze and the multiple ceiling fans. The A/C in the bedroom was plenty strong to keep me cool at night - and I'm from the Northeast US so not accustomed to heat and humidity.

Now what we most enjoyed about the resort.

We stayed in a one bedroom villa suite with a rooftop terrace and private pool. If you are looking for a relaxing trip with plenty of privacy this is a great room for you. It was enormous and well appointed with a full kitchend and living area. There were three balconies on the main living - the primary balcony had a dining table and rocking chairs that looked out to the sea. The bedroom was airconditioned and cooled down to a comfortable 70 degrees each night. The roof was perhaps the best part of the villa. It was over 1000 sqft with a pool, dining table and six chaise lounge chairs. Spectacular, unobstructed views of the Carribbean Sea and Pigeon Island. I have nothing negative to say about the room, housekeeping or room service - all were top notch.

Ross the GM was a great host as many others have mentioned. He took the time to learn some of our interests and made a point to invite us to a wine tasting where we met the hotel owners and the Food and Beverage Manager. We can't say enough about the owners and management - excellent all around.

The food at Cliff was very good. As others have pointed out the primary menu is small and doesn't change on a daily basis. There was however a fixed price option that changed daily. The wine list was excellent - both breadth and value. If we had been travelling with friends we would have booked a dinner in the wine cellar and had a meal prepared around the wines we wanted to drink - few hotels anywhere will offer that as an option.

We worked with the conceriege daily and had positive experiences with all of the wonderful ladies who sit at the desk.

Dunston at the beach was equally helpul with the kayaks and the cold Pitons.

If you are looking for a low key, relaxing vacation this is one of the best choices on St Lucia.

Cap Maison was amazing, the staff friendly but not intrusive and the food was absolutely amazing! This is the perfect boutique resort, not for kids or parting. The resort is a short cab ride away from restaurants and nightlife, but really we found little reason to leave the resort. I liked that the resort was tucked away from most others. It is a wonderful, relaxing spot. Spring for the villa with an awesome roof top pool. If you are in to deep tissue massages, be sure to visit "Julian," he will melt away your stress. I get car sick so we opted for the helicopter instead of the cab ride; it was well worth the $. I can't wait to go back.

Overall very good if you do it right.

- the setting is the reason to go - it's not the Pitons, but lovely nonetheless. Long drive from international airport (1 hr 45 minutes.)
- get a villa with a rooftop pool (the jacuzzi room we had was ok - three stories with a rooftop terrace, but wish we had that pool up top.) The rooftop views are spectacular.
- villa kitchens are great - on your way to hotel, ask cab driver to stop at supermarket in Rodney Bay (Super J) and stock up on food/beverages for your full size fridge. You may want to cook - or not - but it's nice to have snacks, etc. - and infinitely cheaper!
- only ONE restaurant. Food was good - service was just OK....nothing to write home about. The restaurant views are beautiful.
- main pool is pretty, but smaller than the photos make it appear. pool chairs get taken early (another reason to get a room with your own pool) The second pool is small and for adults only - with no view of the water.
- beach is small and basic, but perfect waves for body surfing. small bar beachside - no blender drinks or food, but not a problem for us.
- room was very nice, but only the bedroom has A/C, and to keep it cool, you had to keep the blinds closed so you couldn't get a view during the day. Small walk in closet in the master bedroom. Beautiful four poster bed - very comfortable.
- Rodney Bay - not much to do there in terms of shopping. Lots of construction and many restaurants closed up. Had a great meal at Chez Claude - sort of a Key West, kitchey looking place with a nice menu and great service.
- Kids - we travelled with teens and there were a few other families with kids this age. Would absolutely not recommend this place for younger kids.
- Reception didn't seem to care that our jacuzzi didn't work for our entire stay.
- Nightlife - they did have a funky St. Lucia country band that played pool side one night, but no one was there to enjoy them.
- Bar - little bar at the restaurant with a really nice bartender. There's an "honor" bar in the lobby area where the computer is (internet access.)

We stayed three nights at Jalousie Plantation and two nights at Cap Maison. Both were very nice - but two totally different island experiences. I'm glad we did both.

This is a nice addition to the roster of luxury hotels in the Caribbean.

Pros:

- nice island: the Pitons, Pigeon Island, nice beaches in Rodney Bay
- the food in the hotel's restaurant is not what you'd get in New York or London at the same price point, but it is very good by Caribbean standards: the meal plan is worth it especially since there are no other restaurants nearby
- very pleasant staff: our family has some picky eaters and the restaurant was very accommodating about substitutions, etc.
- excellent service: we received turn down service at the time we requested it daily; after a few days we suggested that mosquito nets be provided for the beds and found them installed in our room the same evening
- hotel general manager is very "hands on" and is always around to help out
- nice views from the rooms that have them, and from the restaurant
- the rooms are tastefully appointed

Cons:

- the buildings are very close together for a luxury hotel: for instance our suite had an outdoor shower which was basically unusable as the guests of the next villa had a direct view over it from 10 feet away!
- some rooms can be fairly undesirable: small, no view, directly on the parking lot and the access road, etc.
- the common pool is small, much too small to accommodate all the guests when the hotel is full as it was over Easter.
- the beach is fairly small as well

Overall, we definitely enjoyed our stay at Cap Maison. My impression is that the hotel staff does everything it can to make your stay pleasant (think Four Seasons there); the negatives are issues that cannot be fixed at this stage: buildings too close together, small common pool, etc. Do make sure you get one of the larger rooms with a private pool, which also happen to be the ones with an ocean view. It will make a big difference in your enjoyment of Cap Maison. My impression from reading the earlier reviews after returning is that guests who did not like their stay there are likely those who were in the smaller rooms.

We booked a Garden view room at Cap Maison after a last minute decision to take a break. All I knew was it was in a good area and the person I spoke to when making the booking was very personable - but we had no set expectations.
All in all Cap Maison is average. Which says it all. All I would therefore recommend is look around and think twice before parting with your hard earned money.
The location is lovely, with great views and a well positioned small bar and restaurant.
The staff in the restaurant and bar are equally lovely and genuine.
The many staff behind the front desk are generally a little lost and a certain arrogance exudes from the management suite. This excludes Ross, the General Manager who does go out of his way - but unfortunately can not be everywhere at the same time.
The room service staff are equally lovely, however despite many regular visits to the room during the day we were bemused what they actually did bar turning over the bed covers, (at 5pm in the evening!). The ice container was left full of water for a week and the milk for tea/coffee gone off and only changed when the solids poured down the sink. In addition a large dead cockroach comfortably sat in the corner of the room for 3 days.
The room was comfortable, but overpriced - cracked sinks, door lock broken ... It was also lucky that we did not want to lie in beyond 7:45am as this when the staff boy racer turned up in their Subaru which had an exhaust the size of my thigh and a latent engine switch which meant you knew it was outside for 15 minutes after the occupant had left it. VROOM, VROOM I'm here!!
Finally, I know everyone else has ranted about the food, but we disagree. A case of pretense wins over all. The head chef swanned in and out at will. The menu was incorrectly written, false routine promises made to compensate for bad food, (pancakes without eggs! and off cream). Put it this way, if you are a vegetarian get a cab elsewhere. There is only one time you can taste the chefs poor soggy pasta and one piece of asparagus, but to have it two nights in a row as the only option after being asked back is one time too many.

I am disappointed that we failed to deliver on a number of points in relation to this guests stay as we always strive to achieve consistency which is the bedrock of a successful hotel.
Rest assured that the comments have been shared with the entire team at Cap Maison in order that we deliver on both service and value for money.
The Car Parking issue that was mentioned has been addressed.
I would like to correct the perception that the reviewer gave when they mentioned the Chef “Swanned in and out at will” which gives entirely the wrong impression as Chef arrives at work a 8:00am and will put in 12-14 hours a day 6 days a week and is a dedicated professional.
The learning point on the food side is that we have to be more focused on vegetarians.

After a long flight and a two hour transfer, our initial reaction to the Cap Maison, was ‘Why did we pick this place?’. We were shown to a room, which we were informed was an ‘upgrade’ that was just above its gravel parking lot and basically overlooked the road. The ‘sea view’ was really only possible if one bent over the balcony’s railing.

After a few discussions with the receptionist and the evening manager, we were told that there maybe another room available this following morning. I have to say neither were overly helpful. As expected, we were woken up, early the next morning, by the water trucks on the road and the noise as the hotel’s staff arrived in their cars. After breakfast, we were shown two very small rooms, neither of which had been cleaned from the previous day. We chose one in the main building, which was just above the gym. But after a few minutes, the noise of slamming doors and people talking, we soon realised that this room would not any quieter. As other reviews have mentioned, sound insulation is an issue for many rooms at the Cap Maison.

It was only after my wife spoke to the GM Ross, after getting the run around from one if his assistants, that we were offered a quiet room. If we had not been able to get a quiet room, we were willing to move to another resort, a fact that neither of Ross’s assistants seemed to believe or care about.

Given its layout, the Cap Maison has several two bedroom villas, which are very nice, but a little overpriced for a couple. The few single bedroom rooms where already occupied, when we arrived. This is something to thing about, when $500 a night does not get you a quiet, comfortable room.

Once this problem was finally sorted out, we did enjoy a week of relaxing. But for those who prefer the beach, please be aware that the resort’s beach is nice, but small. Also, since all of the beaches on St Lucia are public, its easy access from the road, means that it does get crowded with outsiders. The week we were there, shad and lounges were at a premium a few days. But the reef that is adjacent to the beach provides some great snorkelling opportunities.

What really makes the resort is the staff. The restaurant staff at breakfast and dinner were very helpful. This added to an already pleasurable experience. Most were willing to help no matter what. All were very friendly.

We do not deny that the Cap Maison has a great location and that most of the staff provides wonderful service. But given its facilities and the choice and range of rooms/villas, we question whether it is worth the cost. Given other choices on St Lucia, we are not sure if this is the best choice.
