Did not stay at this hotel but dined in its restaurant accompanied by a welcoming, roaring fire. The service was excellent and extremely friendly with waitresses more than happy to chat as they served or cleared the table. Menu was varied and the quality of the food excellent. The steak and ale pie was substantial and well cooked, my partner's sea bass with Chinese vegetables was seasoned beautifully and very attractively presented. This is a thoroughly good restaurant, not at all pretentious and giving excellent value.

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday carvery in the restaurant overlooking the river Tees a couple of weeks ago. The price at eight pounds fifty a head seemed fair especially taking into account the location. The food was delicious and we had good service. The smiles were wiped off our faces however when we received the bill. The price for a pint and a half of weak lime and soda was five pounds fifty. Day light robbery. We will not be returning.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay and some outstanding meals. The staff were most helpful and considerate. We will certainly stay again and I would recommend for anyone wishing to visit the area. Even our labrador dog loved the place with excellent walks alongside the river.

We found this hotel at the last minute and booked a double room for 39 pounds as it seemed just what we were looking for.

What we found was a lovely hotel in a cracking location just off the A1,sat on a lovely quiet river. Our room was a decent size with a nice comfy double bed and a good sized bathroom.

The hotel was very welcoming and the food was spot on and good value with a good choice of beers and wines to cater for all tastes.

All in all it was a real bargain and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a night away from it all!!

This was a return weekday stay whilst on a business trip in the area.. Once again thanks to Jo & Beth for a great room overlooking the river with a lovely little balcony it really does have everything you need, extremely clean & very comfortable and the bottled water, aero drinking chocolate and custard creams are a lovely gesture. The bar staff and food was also very good. Love this place and will definitely stay again at the soonest opportunity.

25 & 26th October 13. We booked our family and friends in to the George for a bar b q meal meet an greet on the Friday and the Wedding was on the Sat at noon, with an evening do at 6.30 til 12. Without exception everything went perfectly- Stacey, Beth and all the staff were amazing. The service and food was lovely and the whole thing was all I had hoped for and more. Everyone was well looked after and special diet requirements very well catered for. The bridal suite was lovely and all the other rooms were good. Everyone had a fantastic weekend. The only problem is I wish I could do it all again. We will defo go back and especially for our anniversary! We had a few lunches there beforehand and they were always good. Even the dog came. Thanx Stacey and all @ the George.

Room Tip: If you very quiet rooms ask for them out of the main building, but all the rooms are lovely.

Sunday lunch time in pubs and hotels, usually means a full meal or a carvery, but The george offers a hot meat sandwich with gravy from their carvery for those who only want a snack. There was a choice of roast beef, pork or turkey and all the joints looked great and we chose the beef. It was melt in the mouth and we were delighted with the atmosphere, the friendly welcome and will definitely stop again when travelling that route.
