Booked a room here on a business trip to Allenheads, nice and cosy. The bar and restaurant was very nice. The room nice and comfy but the shower a bit of a damp squid.

Parking was ample and very nice public footpaths to stroll around

Hello Kawabungga,

Thank you so much for your review. The team will be delighted to hear the feedback relating to the bar and restaurant.

If you could send me an email at j.cairns@bulldogmail.co.uk and let me know the room you stayed in I will investigate the issue with the shower as a matter of priority.

We hope to welcome you back to the George Hotel in the future.

Have a fantastic New Year!

Kind regards
Johnathon Cairns

At the beginning of November, we managed two visits in 8 days .... great. The first was en route to Scotland and was a 'Room only' stop because we wanted to get away before the breakfast was served. We had already eaten so we just had a couple of drinks in the bar. The young barman was very friendly but not OTT. The menu was tempting so we chose to book a table for two (close to the roaring fire at the end of the bar), for our next visit 8 days later. Our room was warm and clean.

On the return leg, we had booked an 'Autumn Fall' Offer and we feel it is a really deal to recommend. "Enjoy a cosy night away on a bed and breakfast basis, and receive a complimentary mini hamper with goody items for him and for her. All for just £79.00 per night based on 2 people sharing a standard double room. (Upgrades are also available)."

We had a different room and, again, it was clean and warm. The meal was delicious but ... no roaring fire alight that evening ... boo hoo :-( Breakfast was varied in options and offered a good choice for everyone's tastes.

We have stayed here several times now - for one night stops ... we must find an excuse to stay longer in the future :-)

Did not stay at this hotel but dined in its restaurant accompanied by a welcoming, roaring fire. The service was excellent and extremely friendly with waitresses more than happy to chat as they served or cleared the table. Menu was varied and the quality of the food excellent. The steak and ale pie was substantial and well cooked, my partner's sea bass with Chinese vegetables was seasoned beautifully and very attractively presented. This is a thoroughly good restaurant, not at all pretentious and giving excellent value.

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday carvery in the restaurant overlooking the river Tees a couple of weeks ago. The price at eight pounds fifty a head seemed fair especially taking into account the location. The food was delicious and we had good service. The smiles were wiped off our faces however when we received the bill. The price for a pint and a half of weak lime and soda was five pounds fifty. Day light robbery. We will not be returning.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay and some outstanding meals. The staff were most helpful and considerate. We will certainly stay again and I would recommend for anyone wishing to visit the area. Even our labrador dog loved the place with excellent walks alongside the river.

We found this hotel at the last minute and booked a double room for 39 pounds as it seemed just what we were looking for.

What we found was a lovely hotel in a cracking location just off the A1,sat on a lovely quiet river. Our room was a decent size with a nice comfy double bed and a good sized bathroom.

The hotel was very welcoming and the food was spot on and good value with a good choice of beers and wines to cater for all tastes.

All in all it was a real bargain and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a night away from it all!!

This was a return weekday stay whilst on a business trip in the area.. Once again thanks to Jo & Beth for a great room overlooking the river with a lovely little balcony it really does have everything you need, extremely clean & very comfortable and the bottled water, aero drinking chocolate and custard creams are a lovely gesture. The bar staff and food was also very good. Love this place and will definitely stay again at the soonest opportunity.
