We recently stayed at Kupu Kupu for 2 nights at the end of our honeymoon in Bali. We decided to push the boat out for the last 2 nights (the icing on the cake) after reading reviews on this site and researching other top end places to stay in Ubud. Overall we came away feeling disappointed with the experience. Kupu Kupu is truly in a glorious location and has a magnificant setting. It is a fantastic spot and the Mango Tree spa is fabulous. The staff are incredibly friendly and even the staff clearing the walkways and paths stop to greet guests. After reviewing the pics on the Kupu Kupu website we booked a Duplex Pool Villa. The villa we were given did not match up to the pictures on the website and was far less spaceous that we had been led to assume. There was a musty damp smell on opening the door - and we had been given twin beds (fixed together) with 2 mosquito nets. Our options were either to try and join the nets between us or risk getting bitten - not the best for a honeymoon couple ! Kupu Kupu offers a butler service. Our butler showed us around our room on arrival and then after that we didn't see him again. There seems to be no difference between butler service and normal room service / front desk services.
