On arrival at the Hotel we were greeted by friendly helpful staff.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Our particular room had fantastic views over open countryside, and what made it extra special was waking up on a morning and seeing Red Deer roaming wild in the distance...........fabulous!

The food we had while we were at the Hotel was reasonably priced and of a quality that would put some more expensively priced Hotels to shame.

Overall, we were very pleased with this Hotel...................particularly the children, as they loved the large outdoor climbing frame............although the weather wasn't on our side in the month we visited!

Would definately recommend it to other people wanting to stay near Darlington, without the hassle of parking in the Town.

Excellent!

Luxury at very affordable prices, a stunning castle set in beautiful grounds which I look forward to going back to so we can enjoy the fabulous views in summer. Staff were lovely and the food was absolutely beautiful, if we lived a little closer we would definately use it just for the food alone and the room was the icicng on the cake.

I'd stayed here last year; took a room in the castle - my birthday treat to me. Terrific. Only drawback was very poor mobile phone reception. (The Normans hadn't thought of that!! ) I stayed for three days this time, taking a room in the West Wing: doesn't have the Medieval charm but does have far better 'phone reception.
My outstanding memories are several; superb foob in Hansard's; excellent food/portions inn the Farmers' Bar. Top class service.
Attentive staff at all positions; helpful, polite and knowlegeable. Although I arrived a full 3hrs before check-in my room was readied for my use and I was ensconced within the hour.
Ample car-parking - front, side and rear of the building.
Am going back very soon.

My wife and I booked into this hotel for a four night stay and found it a reasonably pleasant place. The staff were all very helpful and the breakfasts excellent. The food in the Farmers bar left a little to be desired but was all well edible. Our main problems were in our room as there was next to no hot water. The shower ran cold inside a minute and all that could be got from the basin hot tap was luke warm water. The most annoying thing was that the extractor fan in the en-suite ran permanently and the only way to turn it off, so that we could sleep, was to remove the card key that operated the lights. One thing to make note of is that Best Western advertise a 20% discount for 4 nights or more and this was not offered when we came to pay the bill. We booked direct with the hotel and were told that the discount only applied if booked through Best Western - so if you intend to stay for 4 or more nights - book through Best Western.

Well what can I say, administration sadly lacking, party allocated incorrect rooms (different levels of rooms booked for different people), no hot water, infact no water at all at times. Nonchalance from the staff when reporting problems. Phone calls after event saying some people in my party hadn't paid their bill when they had. Ignorance regarding booking from owner who stated we had had free upgrade, doh! We paid for castle rooms and were allocated west wing then moved!! Room was ok for 1 night if you dont want to get washed!!! Don't expect a receipt for the amount you paid, apparently this is very difficult especially when they have messed up the room allocations! Owner has since declined to answer my email and I have had nothing but an acknowledgement from Best Western.

The party night was good, this was probably due to the company we were in and Dave the barman/night porter being friendly. My party would have considered returning to this hotel because the night was good even with all the problems, but due to the lack of correspondence from the owner and Best Western would now rather not go back and would not recommend the hotel.

Please bear in mind Best Western do not own the hotels but just seem to act as some kind of booking agent/name to have against the hotel. The standards are extremely different!
