“Fab Brasserie”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

We ate in the brasserie today to celebrate our wedding anniversary, as usual the food was first class. The staff were very attentive , a special mention to the brasserie manager she is a credit to Rockliffe hall. The lunch time menu is varied and if you fancy a light snack like a wrap this is also catered for . Top class keep up the excellent standard !!!!

A Lovely birthday stay

Our Tiplady lodge room was quite sumptuous, which considering it was one of the lesser rooms in the hotel made me wonder what the expensive end gives you. It was really a suite with separate sitting and sleeping areas, each with a tv. The bathroom was beautifully finished but with an over bath shower ( which wouldn't suit everyone) it even had a balcony!
The spa is absolutely astounding. The facilities are first class...amazingly we loved the igloo with its shute that constantly replenished tiny ice flakes for rubbing over yourself. Relaxing afterwards in the tepidarium was sublime. The gym was absolutely five star, I've never seen such sophisticated machines.

Service is excellent too. The concierge took drove us the 300 yds to the clubhouse for dinner, we just had to ring and he was at the door.

There were only a couple of not quite five star experiences...the food, especially the cooked breakfast was not up to scratch ...very 'cooked earlier' I'm afraid, which was a pity. Dinner in the clubhouse was OK but not top notch.

Our biggest gripe though was the piped music. We were subjected to a looped tape of Christmas classics throughout the stay, breakfast to evening in all public areas (mercifully not inside the spa). If I heard 'Frosty the Snowman' again I would have rioted! Please Rockliffe this does not fit in with the ambience of a 5 star hotel. It may be appropriate in a few places but not everywhere at all times!

These issues would cause me to take half a star off..so as I can't do that I'll still give it five....it is rather good!

I took a special friend for her 40th birthday to a full day spa and treatment and it was perfect. From the concierge in the car park, the efficient check-in, the completely delicious brunch through to the incredible day spent lounging in the various temperature rooms, hydro pool, hot towels and incredible Rasul Mud Ritual - we couldn't fault the quality of service or facilities. It was a day to remember and one that we will definitely repeat regularly!

I was here for my birthday (27th of April, 2014) and resided with the hotel for one night; wish I could have stayed longer. On the day, I went to the spa area to relax and relax I did. The staff are all very helpful and friendly and do not mind showing you around the location. The spa facilities (pools, saunas and changing rooms, etc.) are all very clean and organised. The food is divine as well, for the evening I booked a table at the Orangery restaurant (sorry for spelling) and WOW, well priced, service was exceptional and the food was absolutely lovely. Now the rooms meet up to the price - with a living area, a huge bathroom consisting of a shower and tub (all modern touches and finishes), big comfy beds and pillows, coffee and fridge facilities and not to mention small touches like robes, slippers, a fan if it becomes to warm and toiletries that have a purpose. The grounds are lovely as well and all of the staff very helpful. I would love to stay here again and maybe have one of the treatments. Lovely place

Enjoyed a spa day here with my Mum. The treatments were divine and the therapists were incredibly professional but still friendly, the lunch was delicious and overall the day was really lovely. The only criticism would be how busy the spa area was, it seemed over booked and although there were often empty seats/ beds around the spa they were always reserved Brits abroad style with towels and meant that quite a lot of our time on the day was waiting and watching for free beds to sit on!

This place is fabulous. My wife and I stayed two nights on a cheap deal through Tripadvisor as the full price is steep. I can see why! Enjoyed our stay from first to last impression. Set in lovely peaceful quiet grounds with an adjoining golf course the hotel itself is just the right size for us not too big nor too small. Service in all areas is first rate. We stayed in a room (21) with adaptations for disabled use as I use two sticks to get around. It was capacious and the bathroom and shower well designed for my disability level. The main room was large with two comfy beds. No alcoholic drinks in fridge but it was stocked with water and milk for the coffee/tea machine. Usual flat screen TV and WiFi. We ate in the Brasserie one night and the food was good and the service excellent.but the menu was not that varied. We didn't eat at the Orangey as it was a bit pricey. Breakfast was superb with eggs Benedict, kippers, full fry up, pancakes and fruit or bacon and syrup or continental breakfast. Again excellent service. My wife went to the Spa and found it hard to leave - she's been raving about it ever since!
A little tip, if you don't mind the noise of a pub try the Bay Horse Inn in Hurworth for an evening meal - really good food and just a mile or two down the road out of the grounds.

We stayed at Rockliffe Hall to attend a recent charity event in support of children with cancer.
We were greeted by a very professional receptionist who took our registration and showed us to our room. We were away from the main hall in a modern annex and we didn't mind at all.
The rooms were very spacious and well appointed as you'd expect for a 5 star establishment.
The staff were all very accommodating and friendly and attended to our every need with great aplomb.

We very much enjoyed breakfast the next morning, there was a great selection of hot and cold food and the orangery made for a lovely setting.

The rooms aren't cheap but if you are willing to pay that bit extra or pick up on a cheap deal then I'd highly recommend it for a terrific treat.

We will definitely be back for another stay as soon as we can!

Room Tip: Don't be afraid of staying in the annex, its brand new and the rooms are huge!!
